has the algae been removed now? Last time I was there above the blue line was no-no, worse than being on ice
And the barrel shapes jutting into the track just ask to be run into in a Devil..

Thanks for letting us now, I may show up to a session if I can make my bike track worthy.
Can I ask if pedal strike might be a problem? My BB is really really low.

@El Diablo - Algae was removed by the Stadium towards the end of the summer last year. I've never had a problem over the past couple of years riding above the blue, unless the track is starting to freeze up. Not sure what you mean by the barrel shapes ?
@DFP - Pedal strike won't be a problem. During the winter I was riding a road bike with 175mm cranks and not had any problems. Let me know if you decide to come down, and I'll make sure you're looked after !

why isn't there a track near brum city centre :( or a saturday training session at west midlands tracks
-

Most peoples bikes have a BB at least 270mm, track bikes more like 300mm but mine is 245mm :(
Need to go find a tiddly track cog now 'spose.

IIRC there used to be one or two more tracks in Birmingham that closed a while back. Used to be one at Villa Park but that closed in the twenties.
If there's enough people who can't make Monday nights, I can enquire about getting a Saturday session sorted.

I heard that they are considering plans for a full-on BMX track near alexandar stadium, somewhere near aston.. to Nurture BMX talent for London 2012. Also talk of actually holding the BMX racing in Birmingham NIA or similar.

The Wheels website is talking about getting funding for various improvements to his tracks, but it does have a date of 2007 on one of it's other pages. I guess funding wasn't forthcoming ?

The chap who setup up the track and club - Mark Sleigh, was very well spirited and worked hard doing a lot of digging etc but he was never very good at fund raising.
There was always plans to get the track at wheels properly surfaced and have races there but the funding never got secured so it remained the BUMPY PUDDLY mess that you can only bounce over on a DH rig. Mark & club volunteers flattened out the first two jumps on the track and built some huge dirt jumps with the digger the summer before last. Plus northshore & singletrack was built (I wasnt there for that)
I dont think anymore was done, and it now seems the football ground has plans to take over the site for a super stadium!

Apparently yes its locked off but an informed pal tells me it looks a piece of piss to boot a door off... some dudes are planning to go and graf it up in there and I was hoping when they do they will let me know so I can go with.
I am most certainly up for this, we could grip a train down and do some breaking and entering enit?
Reminds me of my youth breaking into an old closed down Asda to utilise the endless metres of shiny floor for building ramps and doing power slides!

I'm now training to be a BC Level 2 club coach, so can do a Saturday session if enough people are interested. Can tailor it to whatever you'd like to do

TBH man I just wanna ride around a track slowly a few times
Actual training or racing = hard work = not something I want to do
However, I would love to put a few events on for the fixed gear commuter massive
-
• #20
Ste_S - I'm well up for some of that... What you thinking?
-
• #21
@Pistaboy - Whatever people want to do - anything from a general training session, to practice races to just a general ride around the track
@Messenjah - If you've got any ideas for a future track event, let me know. Can maybe sort something out ? Track is floodlit, so can do stuff at night too as well as the daytime

Cheers Ste_s. Keep me in the loop for future sessions... I'm keen.

If anyone is interested, my club has started it's Monday night fixed wheel training sessions at Aldersley stadium from 8 to 9pm.
It's open to riders of all abilities, just bring your fixed bike (no brakes, drop bars) a helmet and three of your finest pounds. We do have club bikes that can be used, but club members get priority and you'll need shoes with Keo cleats.
The sessions cover basic track and group riding skills along with track race practise (Devil, Points, Kierin - we have two dernys) along with some Team pursuiting and the chance to set times in a flying 200m, Kilo etc
Think I am going on Monday... never ridden a track before and am super psyched about doing so.
Keen to see what I can do on this "flying 200"!
Bring it.
