Headset thread help needed!

Posted on
  • I bought a new straight threaded fork and think i might not have enough thread for a headset.... i know its pretty dumb but How much is the minimal amount of thread i need to be able to squeeze a headset on to it ?? thankss guyyyyysss

  • depends on model, 31-35mm roughly, without spacers

  • Depends on what headset you've got - but it's likely that'll you'll need at least an inch of threaded stuff sticking out the top when you offer up the forks. It'll be hard to tell until you've got at least the crown race on.
Someone on here will probably know exact measurements I'm sure.

  • welll do you think there's a way of extending the steerer tube maybe? or even converting it to a threadless tube and extending that.. or maybe i sell the fork and buy one the right size ?

  • Well you can get it extended, but it's not the sort of job any old tit with a welder can do, if you want it done right. And it wouldn't necessarily be a 'cheap' job. Your best bet would be to get a fork that's got either the right amount of thread on it or a bit too much.
