English BB is 68 mm across the BB shell, Italian is 70 mm. They also have different threading. Are you sure you need an Italian one or did you just not install it properly?

No. It is def 70mm. The one I have quite easily goes straight through t'other side.

I don't really know - I took it out of a 1990s Eddy Merckx road frame that sported a mostly Record groupset, but it doesn't have any markings on it, so can't be sure. It needs a clean, but otherwise the bearings seem to have plenty of life left (which is annoying because I assumed it would be knackered and bought a replacement for it on Monday!)

Possible not much use in the world of FG/SS as the axle length is 115mm, but I have a NOS Ultegra Italian-threaded BB, non-cartridge bearings, never fitted, still in box and all its diddy packages and separate pot of grease.

I've got a shimano un?? 110MM and a octalink 109.5mm both Italian, new and very cheap
I have just gone to put a BB in a frame I recently bought and to my horror ( as tonight I was going to ride it ) I discover the damn thing pushes right through the other end.
So... Anyone got an Italian BB for sale or know where I can get one?
BTW - I am right in thinking that an italian BB is slightly bigger in diameter than an english BB arent I?
Cheers all.
