The only hacksaw I have is on my Swiss Army knife! But if it comes down to then it will have to be a hacksaw in the end.

If its threaded, "mark" the steerer, thread a steel headset top-race on over the mark and use your pipe cutters or lemon tool

@ tony - Have you seen one? The cutting blade gets stuck in the threads.
Use the hacksaw and file method.

If that is the preferred method then I shall go and have a dig in my toolbox. I'm sure there'll be one in there somewhere.

Even if you find one, go and buy a new blade for it.

put the headset bolt on the thread,
cut the steerer,
file the edges,
then un-thread the bolt to re-align the thread.

that is what i would do.

its 23:45 so the chance of you fucking it up is pretty good ;o))

drink lots of beer before you do it. that way it will not seem so bad if you fuck it up and then in the morning you will forget it ever happened.

find a blade that will fit into the thread and carefully cut with guidance from one of the rings and you should be fine.
