Hi, I've got a DP18 and having a bit of trouble with it. I can get the tyre on (23c armadillo) but there is an air leak between the edges of the rim and tyre and it goes flat within a minute.
I'm guessing it's because the tyre has been on a wide rim for so long (2000km) that it won't sit on such a narrow rim. Also tried a 25c cheap tyre and that is the same.
After much swearing I have given up and am asking all you experts on the forum, is there something wrong? or if not, what tyre would you use for this rim?
thanks in advance.
I had the same! All your doing is nipping the inner tube! There is an art to fitting tyres and tubes on those bloody nice rims!

Also im running 23's and there fine now i sorted the tube problem!

thanks! with that in mind I'll try again!

On that final bit of the tyre that is a pain in the ass to get on you really need three hands and another to use a tyre lever to push the tube out of the way! I took me 3 attempts to sort it out!

No luck I'm afraid. Tube seems to be on perfectly, still the same.
The leak seems to come from the same place every time, so I would assume it's the tyre-rim combo that's the problem.

I've had issues with 'stretched' kevlar beaded mtb tyres in the past being pricks to fit flat without pinching the tube. It sounds like the same thing.. basically you need to get the installation right so there is NO tube poking out under the bead when you inflate it. Try putting a little air into the tube before fitting it under the tyre. Work it into the tyre, fit tyre fully, inflate a bit more and check that the tyre sits flat by spinning the wheel and eying it - if it bumps, start again, if not continue inflating.

I'll give it a go hippy.

I think i'm going to cry.
I blew the innertube up n it's own, and there is a fcking hole in it !!! now before you lambast me with "idiot" etc, over the course of this, I tried 2 innertubes and I now discover they BOTH have a fcking hole in it. AND the first one is brand new, bought last week.
FFS. and the only tube I have that doesn't have a hole in, looks to be too short to fit through the rim.

Patch kit.

I hate patching. I've not had much luck with them, and stopping pinctures is my no 1 priority (hence armadillo).
Also realised, my spare tube isn't long enough.
Thanks X 100 for the help anyway hippy.

put tyre in boiling water ( hot water )
might stretch it although the steel band might not flex quite as much -

that sound like a repeat...
what size inner tube did you use?

go on Ed..... tell him how it's done!

Run away!!!!

did you put rimtape on it first?
(first one i did i forgot and gave me a flat straight way)

What happend with you ed?
I used rim tape, I was just unlucky, either the new tube had a hole in it, or I made a hole when I put it on... then I tried a different tube and tyre and that tube also had a hole, or maybe I caused that as well. Which made me think the rim was the problem.
I will get some new tubes and a tyre tomorrow.

I don't think you need a new tyre... Put a little bit of air in the tube before trying to fit it - this should help you avoid trapping the tube between rim and tyre bead. Be careful if using lever to help get the last bit of the tyre on the rim as this is often when you can nick the tube.
When the tyre is on, inflate to like 50psi and make sure the tube is seated by bouncing the wheel lightly on the floor round the entire circumferance... Then inflate fully.
Then go to halfords and beg
