Removing brake residue from non-machined rims?

I was going to try using Carb Cleaner from Halfords to clean up my wheels. Don't get it on your skin, it will turn it grey and you'll grow a bunch of cancers.

good call ... this stuff dissolved it instantly....prob destroys everything else it touches as well by the smell of it!
