1" threaded fork to 1 1/8" Ahead conversion

  • Is this possible?
I intent to buy a new 1 1/8" carbon fork. Will the Aheadset fit into my head tube? What dimensions do I need to measure and check?

  • are you saying that at the mo, you have a 1'' frame and forks and want to fit an 1 1/8 ahead fork?????
    if so NO.

  • If your frame has a 1" head set the fork needs to be 1", threaded or threadless. You can not fit a 1" 1/8 fork into a 1" frame.

  • What should the external diameter of the head tube be for a 1 1/8" headset?

  • External doesn't matter, its the internal measurement that matters.

  • Ok, should the internal be 1 1/8" ?

surely if you use a 1 1/8 adaptor it will fit ;) :p

  • and it depends if the frame is alloy or crabon and steel....cuz steel and carbon has the inherent flex in them and therefore the headtube will stretch .......1/8 of an inch should be just about right........alloy will just crack.........and it also depends on the size of the hammer and the force you bash.......

  • don't confuse the lad dogs!:)

  • external dims - headtube for a 1" should be about 31.7mm, for a 1-1/8" 36mm. this means the internal dim for the headtube should be about 26mm for a 1". the steerer is 1" = 25.4mm. so steerer should just about fit. just dont install a headset...lube it like there's no tomorrow and stuff some of the pounded cake decorative edible bearings (as mentioned in other thread) to fill whatever space is left. seal the thing tightly with your ahead stem.

headsets are overated...my headset is quick release

    have fun!

  • i'm not sure how i work out if i have a 1" head set or 1/18 . some help please..

  • you used to be able to get a conversion headset for BMXs when this new fangled ahead 1 1/8th stuff came in- not much clearance between fork steerer tube and frame head tube tho. Dunno if you can still get them anywhere, maybe try Custom Riders or Alans. not much help I suppose but they did exist!

  • any one know where i can get 1" straight forks threaded or not???
    please
