Welcome, sasmon. Don't worry, everyone is new sometime! If you're worried about communting and riding as part of traffic, do a search on the forum for 'cycle training' and you should find quite a lot of info. That will definitely help you to acquire the skills and confidence to do all the cycling in London that you fancy. Have a look at http://www.cycletraining.co.uk/ if you like. CTUK are one of the biggest providers and will be able to answer questions you may have. There are quite a lot of ways of getting cycle training free, based on where you live, work, or study.

Oliver - Thank you for the training idea. For some reason, it never occurred to me that I would have any training, but it must be worth a try, and it looks like Haringey subsidise it.

Hello
I ve been lurking for a while , but I so loved the tweed ride and I was so impressed with the Elidh memorial that I decided to join. It's such a polite and well mannered forum .
About me; well I m not called Peter Carter, you ll see why when I get out of nursery. Lets just mention a Matter of Life and Death and you can work it out from there.
I ride with Lea Valley CC, where I met Bring my Fixed. Its a fixed friendly club with a history , you would not believe what some of the older members have in their sheds, just don't tell mr Stone. We are running evening 10s @ Hogg Hill from May.
Been riding fixed and single speed since 86, I think , when I got a fixed (27" ) from a Free wheel sale. I was very much the only fixed in the village then. Still riding on that wheel, but I m a bit worried by the thread on french threads as I dion't think the lock nut is french. Its a maillard, which was the only road fixed hub you could get in those days . By riding one back then I probably brought the average age of fixed riders in london down by 5 years . Come tio think of it , that wheel is as old as my marriage and I ve a saddle thats older.
Looking forward to more posts and laughs . I loved the Duffy post. We have Mother in @ work: and i work in the NHS......

Hi all, having recently tried fixed it seems I'm hooked but I don't think OTP is the way forward for me, so it may be a while before I'm up and running...
Currently browsing the forum, especially the 'Bikes & Bits' and 'Classifieds & Shopping', while trying to figure out prices!

A good woman is a lot like a brooks saddle, and expensive pain in the arse for years before it's finally broken in. Then you got to tighten em up and rub them in dubin to protect their skin before filling their holes with magnetic ball bearings to make sure you keep hold of them

Hello
Well I braved the roads of london all the way home from the west end to Ally Pally tonight (not very far I know!) for the first time singlespeed (not fixed yet). I have done the commute literally twice before in my life, on the mountain/hybrid geared jobbie, so I am neither fit nor experienced on the road.
First observation, I did not miss the gears at all.
Second observation, cyclists are all pretty cool, and helpful, so refreshig compared to driving and other drivers!
Anyway, hope to do the commute via bike a bit more often and if any of you spot me on the plug that has not got nearly enough dirt on it yet, wearing a brand new rapha jersey (yes I know I must be a hipster/fakenger or whatever), say hello.

Hi everyone, figured I better say hello properly. Hope non-UK residents are welcome too :-)
My name is Mads, I live in Denmark - am a fixie noob, but used to ride a 1 gear centurion, and loved it. I am on the quest for a great 1 gear allrounder, so look forward to diving into your great forum.
Cheers all, M

Heya,
been spending far too much time on this website in recent weeks. Just started on my first fixie building project, can't wait to get it finished. Mainly used for knocking about town and then commuting in the summers. -
