A bike without a seatpost is a problem

Can anyone explain to me why seatpost sizes seem to be so completely unstandardised? Have you got a small margin either way when finding a suitable post for a frame?

yes excactly that, I'm 6'5 and don't like cycling with my knees around my ears

no idea sorry...

different types/thicknesses/quality of tubing I believe is the reason for so many different sizes of seatpost
