"Oh Shit" moments...

Shit. Maybe I should start wearing a helmet. I'd be interested to know how many people on here do or don't. I read an article in The Guardian that said normal bike helmets were not much better than nothing if the speed was greater than 12-15mph... so I kind of figured if I was going slow it wouldn't be that bad anyway and if I was going fast... well that would be more than 12mph, so sod it. Hmmm...

Always. I had a fall with a shitty helmet on and I at least blacked out for a few seconds because of it. I bought a new helmet and I just hope I never have to use it. I wear it so much that I don't realise I've got it on. I walk into shops after locking my bike up and I get some funny looks and can't figure out why - then I remember the helmet! Put a lid on it!!

It's a common injury; I have one right now and it's the third time I've done it. There are some gruesome pics on Sheldon Brown.

How exactly have you managed it 3 times?! I would have thought you'd have learnt by now not to put ur fingers anywhere near you chain when it's moving. Have you lost any parts of fingers due to it, or just spliced them and had to have them sewn back up?
