  • so had a few searches and cant find what im looking for.

so ive never really used an out and out track bar.
ive used normal road drops and want to know whats the main difference in feel?

also with these bars does the wider 42cm have a flat bit for your hands or is it all a nice smooth curve like the smaller ones?

cheers, any advice or such would be great.

  • See below, these are 42s... There is a bit of flat, but not much... I have a pair of 38s and I can only really ride those on the drops, too uncomfortable otherwise... Some people seem to manage tho'...

  • cheers for the picture,
they look like what im after at least...i hope...

    order placed.
    cheers

  • Never seen you on that bike teenslain! I know it exists...

  • The lack of flat combined with angle as the bar goes into the drop makes either holding the tops or sides worse than on road bars. Agree, the position they are made for is riding in the drops for short events.
Look at the longer track events (madison, points) and they are usually using a road bar style which is a clue :-)

  • If you want, check out the B125, it's also a track bar, but have more flat to grab on and the drop aren't that deep, my old 40cm B123 have less room on the flat than my 40cm B125.

it's a good compromise between a road one and the B123.

  • any recommendations for a road bar that is 26.0 / silver / groove-less and is attractive like track drops?

riding track drops on the streets is not comfortable.

Outspoken cycles in Cambridge {google 'em} had these and B123s in steel for less than £30 not that long ago.

Cinelli 65s are deep but 26.4 and all used/old stock these days.

Why not go for Nitto track bars and shim them? Hubjub even sell a Nitto shim if you don't like the idea of using a beer can.

I quite like the (cut-down) B123. It gives loads of room for your arms when your out of the saddle.

On the flat they can be nasty on the wrists, and are shit for moving your weight back (for curbs/potholes etc).

I love them for hard climbs, and you can rest your wrists on slight downhill bits by holding the bars right near the stem... dropping your elbows low, and your heels a little (to spin-up quick).

  • i think 400mm b123's are perfect and i kinda dont want to ride with anything else. i had some 42 drops before and they were too wide, but they were a shitty shape

exactly, it's a great bar for the drop but terrible to be on top.

  • is the curve more comfortable to ride on? I've got the original bars on my carlton and the flat does take it out on my wrists

  • If your a pussy like ed, you'll not want to ride on the curve.

    ;-)

Track bars are designed to be ridden in the drops.

and track bikes a designed to be ridden on the track. just sayin...

  • I ride track drops. What's your point?

  • I had 123s, didn't suit my XL paws at all.

If you put a brake lever on them (which obviously was never intended to be there!) you run out of space pretty quickly.

    They do look nice, though....

CONdor had some silver (don't think they were chrome) road drops in their sale for about seven sheets.

Think they were ITM (RIP), dunno about the grooves.
