  • I know Ved - surely everyone knows that the first rule of being in a club is that your main competitors are your own club mates. Your primary aim in any races is to be the first man home from the club. Co-operation is against the rules!

  • ^ what were you guys up to eh?

nothing at all, and I shouldn't have even risen to the bait. track racing is dangerous enough without adding extra aggro into the mix.

it was a lovely morning yesterday: fine weather, loads of people, great bikes and some really fast racing.

  • we're only teasing tom ;)

  • naughty dulwich paragon riders using blocking tactics in a training race..tut tut..

    anyway, who was running what?

I had 88GI which felt a bit hard in the fast group, I've got used to running spinny gears over winter maybe I should ride 86 for training.

I was on 86 which felt good until the wind hit, might try an 84 next session.

  • i was on 88. i was ok with it last year even with some wind gusts. struggled yesterday but have it down due to my lack of fitness/riding, +6kgs extra weight and fact that im only days out of bad cough/cold spell.

didnt notice any excessive aggro yesterday. heard few shouts, but i thought that was normal. no biggy. was a good day out. would probably prefer if the big bunch during training was at a slightly faster pace. was a tad too slow, JC!

  • Tell it to someone who a) cares; b) believes you!

    Oh, and always HTFU!

actually I only mentioned it because a coach had words with the riders who (allegedly) did it..

it was all in good spirits mind, as was my comment.

I still don't know who you are, Tom, you must introduce yourself next time.

  • mikec was flying like a bugger, despite doing next to no training during winter. you are riding with the elites mate

    Cheers RPM.

I felt pretty good yesterday. I started to cramp up a bit down the back straight on the final lap. I wouldn't say I have been doing no training though. I have been putting a lot of time in the pool, which I will say now, has made a massive difference to my stamina. I have the upper body strength now to really hold the bike down and not let people jossle me or push me out of position when the going gets tough. I have also been doing a lot of hill climbing in big gears which also seems to have helped.

I was on a pretty low gear of 86 yesterday ( a real 86 based on the rabbit calculator ) I think I would have done a bit better on a higher gear, but it was the first day back, windy and a little chilly

  • I wouldn't say I have been doing no training though.

nah that was a bit of pisstake ;)

everyone keeps saying I've been doing "loads of training" but the only thing I've done this winter compared to last is actually do "some training" judging by yesterday, it was enough to keep me at a similar level to where I left off last year, not bad, but not great either.

  • 88 here too. Felt ok... Bit too spiny for sprints but it`s only march

My friend Richard (who's rides for paragon) reckons they were just backing up the bunch so that he could make a heroic bid for glory. Is that true?

  • dunno mate, I didn't see any numbers on anyone's backs. was too busy trying not to crash myself, just heard PC give them a friendly bollocking after

  • two of the three of them had never ridden on the track before so I wouldn't go overboard on the theorising

  • Good meeting a few of you on Saturday.

    I was on 48x15 - 86.4

Sadly there were to many people there to do proper structured stuff. I think they might need to do more session on the weekends as the numbers are only going to get bigger...

Won't be there next weekend as I'm riding the Roy Thame Cup, well if the chest cold clears...

  • It felt well dodgy in those scratch races, well out of practise and abit windy in the home straight, guess there's always next Sat.

  • the wind and the track surface caught me out after riding indoors over winter.

going from calshot to HH is like chalk and cheese

  • Because there was no one blocking at Calshot?

  • the wind and the track surface caught me out after riding indoors over winter.

Yeah, Herne Hill is such a jarring ride. Not like charging down silky smooth Essex Lanes at 30mph:

  • The track surface felt good to me, mind had just cycled through the City on my Lavoro, which is the hardest ride ever

  • didn't say it was rough, just different.

    BMMF is being flippant

  • Thats the trouble with email/texts/post you never know how they're intended to come across.

not quite sure how you lot train for that, was much harder than i've done this year, much more leg speed, still only March though

  • I really enjoyed HH this weekend.
There were a lot of people and that freaked me out big time.... but enjoyed it once i got going!

I think that if they can organise more sessions they could make some good money and get that place renovated.
The guys running the place have put so much time and effort into into it and the community of London really needs to make sure HH survives.

The kids there were awesome. Its so good to see them prticipating in sport.

See you all down there again soon!

it's difficult but we did our best through the winter, although I think my sprinting has improved massively, my endurance has dropped slightly

  • it's difficult but we did our best through the winter, although I think my sprinting has improved massively, my endurance has dropped slightly

I think I found the opposite. Not sure as I was in a lower gear but endurance has improved massively. What gearing do you reckon for Newport Rob. The 86 I was using on Saturday?

  • Think i use a 50x 16, not sure what gear that is but suspect its not low

  • Think i use a 50x 16, not sure what gear that is but suspect its not low

84.4 inch (in old school measurements)

Attached is an EXCEL gear chart for those that don't have one... might be good for an admin person to add it as a sticky.
