Where Did It All Go Wrong?

Posted on
  • So I went up to Achill for the weekend, looking forward to a good big cycle around one of the most beautiful places in the world and then it all went wrong...

My mate drunkenly borrows my bike to cycle back from the pub and doesn't seem to recollect that it's fixed and brakeless... loses control going down a hill and bails, I've no idea what happened my bike but my fork is now mush :( Ed then proceeded to fall backwards into an 8 foot ditch in the dark to stay there until we found him later...

Anyways I tried to not let it get me down and to make the most of the beautiful weekend and the perfect beachbreak on Keem Bay and skim my sorrows away. So I'm skimboarding to my hearts content, have my fill and go back upto the car and realise my foot is swollen and purple... jellyfish got me :(

I must be due some good Karma by now...

  • HA! I can related to a worrying amount of your story.

My flatmate, also called Ed, has drunkenly borrowed at least 2 of my bikes and subsequently crashed them. I'm a full 6 inches taller than him so i dunno how he managed to ride them at all. And he didn't ask permission once. Luckily the damage was always more severe to him than to my bikes, but if he'd mashed up my forks I would have full on punched him in the head. After waiting for him to heal fully from any injuries sustained in the crash.

  • When I got drunk, I somehow venture to the nearest unlocked bike and tried to cycle home on it, tried being the operative word.

  • Well they do say trouble always comes in threes...so good luck with the last one! ;)

    killjoy! ;)

hope you're ok E,those jellyfish can hurt but not as much as your bike mangled Im sure :(

I might have the odd spare part around if it helps? just let me know :)

  • Why would you let someone that you know is drunk, use your bike in the first place ?

  • friendship ?
    alcohol ?
    delete as appropriate

Sucky story, but what we all want to know is.... did you pee on the foot! :)

  • no tricks this weekend then? Was that the disco bike (purple glittery one)

  • bunch of piss ed's

  • No to pee, vinegar did the trick

Yes to disco bike but miraculously the frame is almost intouched, just a tiny bit of chipping on the rear seat stay which can actually be fixed with lacquered back I'd reckon so it's not the end of the world

  • I recently tried Unicycling (for the first time in about 6 years) when I was blind drunk . . . and I now have the scars to prove it!

  • You have scars from that?

  • I only drink vegan lager, which is impossible to get pissed on.

  • Ok, some scabs and bruises . . . I was trying to sound cool! I'm sure I have some from when I first learnt to ride one. Unicycle paper rounds FTW! (True story)

  • Why would you let someone that you know is drunk, use your bike in the first place ?

Well, in my case at least, there wasn't any 'letting' involved at all!

  • i found a postmans bike walking home from the pub once.

naturally took it for a drunken spin, fell off, ripped my favourite pair of trousers.

    i regretted my decision.

  • So it turns out Ed broke his collarbone in two places, lol

  • nobody is due karma.

Karma is not punishment or retribution but simply an extended expression or consequence of natural acts. The effects experienced are also able to be mitigated by actions and are not necessarily fated. That is to say, a particular action now is not binding to some particular, pre-determined future experience or reaction; it is not a simple, one-to-one correspondence of reward or punishment.

    (thanks wiki)

  • Split up with girlfriend 2 weeks ago.

Hit by a car 1 week ago.

Came out of pedals today and chainset has fucked up the back of my leg...

    Karma - I must be/am a right cunt!
