PLenty of info on the net about routes etc. all really depend on fitness, experience and what your after really. Could try Wales for similar scenery or maybe the scottish Islands. Also check out the back of the MTB mags for people running trips they should all be able to help with routes etc. Right to Roam should mean that you won't have any access worries. Buy maps and work out your own route its not that difficult.
Don't skimp on the midgie repellent, this is the most important piece of kit for survival.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers Andy, that Edinburghbicycle website has shit-loads of routes to choose from. I've done a pile of road touring/general sleeping rough and wanted to try a bit of that in the Highlands.
I have my full body mozzy-suit at the ready. -

Nice one on getting up there mate. You will have a cracking time, your breath will be taken.
I have heard that Avon's Skin So Soft range is in fact an amazing midge repellent.
I dont have a suggestion for a route up at Inverness, but if you are flexible and could change start point, Fort William along to Mallaig would be a great route. Costal route with cracking views of islands like Rum, some of the nicest silver sanded beaches you will ever see. The scenery is immense. A childhood holiday spot so I have a slight bias I suppose.Me and my mates are planning on getting up the highlands for a fixed gear tour. You might hear about it once plans are sorted.
Enjoy youself.

Nice work everyone, the Offroad Adventures one looks really useful Tommy.
All I need now is a train ticket... might be easier cycling there...
What better place to ask about off-road touring in Scotland than London Fixed-Gear and Single-Speed?
Anyway, I want to head west from Inverness via Glen Affric to somewhere or other with some mates for a 3 or 4 night ride, with snoozing under the stars/rainclouds as obligatory.
Do any people here have a knowledge of any routes in the area? Or any alternatives in terms of location, but with similar landscapes?
Going through the odd town wouldn't be objectionable, as we all like to eat and drink every now and then.

P.S. I'm only asking here cos I'm not a member/viewer of any other cycling forums and don't really wish to be, so thought this'd be ok
