  • I've spent months wearing you in.
    Hours caressing you with wax
It's clear that I have build up a strong relationship.
A bond I would never want broken.

The thought that someone would take you and you'd be forced into another derriere for a fraction of the price wasn't worth thinking about, so, it did this.

The weight pissed me off within a couple of days and i grinded it off (and subsequently slipped and hit the post-wow is aluminum softer than steel)

Any one gone to any extremes to protect their brookes, bike etc
    Please share

  • just superglue a ball bearing into the allen key HEAD. you can dig it out with a scalpel in 5 mins

  • That's crazy. A long D-lock could do the job. Even better. The chain wrapped in inner tube idea.

  • Yes the thin aluminium tubing of a seatpost is weaker than a half inch steel rod!!

That really is getting excessive, you may aswell have ground the clamp bolts to prevent future removal.

    A bit of steel cord

Get unusual headed bolts (torx etc)

    Magnetic Ball bearings

Used a real D-lock (still lighter & stronger than a plain rod)

    Superglue etc

(and fuck am i slow at typing)

  • Up here in Glasgow I was mostly concerned that my saddle would get nicked. 8 months on and my Fizik Arione is still firmly on the bike even though it gets locked up outside uni every day for 8 hours. I don't leave the bike long anywhere else though.

  • why not just use a shortened chain?

  • Ball bearing and superglue! clever, i was close to welding.
Also does the eddy merx sticker on the seat tube mean anything to anyone?

  • You dont even have to something as permanent as superglue. You can get magnetic ball bearings now as a popular gadget/toy.

  • yw.

The "MADE BY FALCON CYCLES" sticker?

  • stupid question stupid answer - i know
    But yeah

  • This is fucking hilarious!

    Is this for real?

  • Did you weld that on?

  • And the flower! Gold!

  • Nah, it's a Brookes. If it was a Selle Rolls I might steal it. I think you are being overprotective...

  • How about not using expensive saddles on bikes you're locking up around town...

  • ^ beat me to it

  • Sometimes I reckon this forum has too many nay sayers.

    This is fucking hilarious!

Yep, that's the spirit. Balki's got it right I'd say.

  • Jesus fucking christ, all that effort gone to waste when it only take a combination of chain looped round the saddle and frame and putting some ball bearing in the allen hole make it stronger!

nonetheless, it's an experiment, and as experiment go, that's a crazy one!

  • That looks fuckin ridiculous, sorry

  • hey sry to ask if it came up elswhere, but where do i get 'magnatic' (oooh) ball bearing balls ... and ey how to get them to leave the bolts cosy nest?

just got my seating set and ridden in and rly don't like the extra chain add on. though it might be the best thing to do as this is what i hear all the time.

    ... hm, anyone?

  • hmm, just wondering, how about heat glue normal ones in?
should be fairly easy to remove with a soldering iron set on the ball for a few seconds, no?

  • If you need to heat the glue to melt it again then you will need to get the bolt hot enough to melt the glue (the bolt is touching the frame and seat post which will also act as a heat sink).

There are other threads giving advice on this, the consensus seems to be superglue the bearing into the bolt and use nail varnish remover to get it out.

If using magnetic bearings just use a magnet to release them.

  • yes got it ... so magnetic balls then, but where ... anyone :) ?

  • Just use a cable lock through the rails, and loop through D-Lock when locking up.

  • Just use a cable lock through the rails, and loop through D-Lock when locking up.

Maybe the most sensible suggestion if you don't want the saddle fixed into position yet... but it's worth noting that not all saddles have enough clearance to take a cable lock, so try before you buy.
