Stolen,
I'd like to report the theft of my blades, they are practically virginal, maiden voyage today. They were double locked (kryptonite locks, and in the Edscoble approved manner) and I had paid some little skally to keep it safe.
They have immense sentimental value and a small reward is offered for their safe return.
I shall be at BL market on sunday.
Thanks

Serves you right for leaving the chopper unattended while popping in for a tat.

Theif News..... Had my bike locked up out side a bar close to Old street Roundabout. I was sitting out side the bar with a number of other people and this old chav looking bastard ( bout 5'10 gret chav tracksuit , standard white trainers , mid to late 30's, ugly , no side burns...) was checking my bike out , checked the lock then he got on the phone and he just waited next to my bike. He stood there for about 10 mins .. As soon as I went over he quickly left the area and got on his phone again.
If my friend and I had chosen to sit inside the bar (in the warm) by bike would be down brick lane right now & its just so fucking shit how these theifs just get away with it!
It would be so easy to do a "sting" and get this bastard.....

I haven't read through all of this post yet but at the end of the day if someone wants a bike they will get it. I have mates that work in Soho and you'll be surprised what they get offered, even brand new bikes with price tags turn up. The best/worst one that I heard about was the Russian gang in a van that were stealing bikes and they had a hydraulic cutter which just went through any lock or railing and this puts me off riding to work if I need to lock my bike up outside ;o((

all you need is logic, location, choice of lock and locking method, then your bike shouldn't go walkie, that's all there to it, on this topic, there's quite a lots of bikes that has been stolen were locked with a shit lock (£10).
a lots of us have £500+ bike and still managed to not get it stolen for years in London famous London.

Bluequinn's girlfriend here. It was bloody lucky I was awake and heard the thieving scumsuckers make some noise - I saw them through the spyhole in our front door and was able to give the police a fairly OK description of one of them. The bikes are stored in the foyer outside our flat, which has a locked door to get through too, so we reckon some twat hadn't shut it properly behind them.
I'm just so fucking relieved they didn't take the bikes we really properly care about, ie the vintage Raleigh Superbe and my darling little green 1971 Moulton Midi. I swear if I had seen a scummer trying to nick that he'd have had a heavy lock in his face before he knew what had hit him.
Respect is due to the police, they turned up within 5 minutes and aso brought a crime scene guy with them who dusted the place for fingerprints! It was like CSI:Bethnal Green.
Shit, sorry for blathering on in my first post. Stress innit. Nice to meet you all, anyhoo.

Man that must have been scary, good job on waking up and hearing what happen! at least since they didn't steal the prize turkey, which mean you can able to store your other bikes in the flat in the meantime.
It was like SOCO:Bethnal Green.
Scene Of Crime Officier is what they're called in Britain! ;)

Some dude was in Shop 14 yesterday with a wheel he'd just bought for £20 on the market because it had a Goldtec hub. Absolutely did not care that it was obviously stolen.
-
• #1720
Shit luck, BQ and BB. Good work on getting the police onto it so quickly! When you refer to the lock and cable, presumably the bikes were secured with them inside the foyer? If so, how were the locks attacked?
-
• #1721
Nope, The lock was in its cradle, cable wrapped around the seat - i.e. not being used. I mention it because the question would be asked.
To be honest I'd have thought 2 locked doors would be enough, and they have been for 5 years. But the foyer one had a dodgy closer that didn't close it properly - someone had not pulled it shut after them. And I guess some idiot, or accomplice let the thieves in the outside door. Or they had a key.
I'm not sure I am that upset about losing that particular bike. It was slow and ponderous and I hated riding it, and for the last few months it had been kept at work. If it had not been there looking shiny and nice and sellable they would have stolen my Raleigh Superbe and that would have broken my heart. So in a way I'm glad the mountain bike was there to act as a decoy. The noise shifting that disturbed my girlfriend and her noise disturbed the burglars.
I have revised my opinion of the police. In the past I have had a bike and a scooter nicked and they literally couldn't have given less of a shit. I'm guessing someone's had a word in the last couple of years. Last night they were at the door before I had even checked the outside doors were secure, and went out round the area, and put a shout out to see if they could spot the scumbags. The SOCO guy was good, but shared his frustration that even if he got prints it would be really difficult to get a conviction. They did say they might put some patrols down Brick Lane this Sunday.
I may head down there at the weekend, but if I see the bike and the fucker who stole it I'm worried about my reaction. It will either be timid and useless or over the top and excessively violent, and both are bad.

Yes, not something you can expect to be stolen if it's indoors--and, quite frankly, you shouldn't have to at all. But the best advice is to always lock things in shared hallways etc. Hope it turns up! It is good that your more prized bikes weren't touched.
Bike theft is a police priority and has been for a few years, as research revealed it to be one of the most prevalent crimes and one that people were very concerned about. Different police forces apply themselves to making it a priority to different degrees.

I have discovered this morning that they came in through an open window. they stood on a wheely-bin and on each other's shoulder's I'm guessing. It also looks like they tried jemmying the back door but failed. I am now annoyed at my smoker neighbours who leave that window open.

Another Deptford tale here- my first fixed gear and a mates singlespeed were stolen from our third floor balcony in Deptford.
No sign of either of them ever again, despite them both being pretty much unique.
Total value would be well over two grand, total resale- not sure, how much is crack?
SE8/Creek road.
I'll keep my eyes open, but from talking to people the thieves normally move the bikes ASAP for around £50 to the guys who staff the hand car washes, who then move them to mates or motorists when they get their cars cleaned.

Yep! Used to work in Soho, saw that happen once. Van pulls up, 2 fellas jump out, hydraulic cutters, 2 motorbikes in the back off the van, off - all in 20 seconds in broad day light on Broadwick St
very recently stolen:
