• And of course, we mustn't forget Anne Mustoe. She looks kind of out of place in a thread like this (I doubt she's ever worn lycra), but I find her incredibly inspiring. There's a bit in one of her books where she's in Western China, and runs into a young chap who has just ridden across the Gobi Desert, with a team of fellow cyclists, a support vehicle, and a translator - and leaves him slack-jawed by informing him that she's just done the same (unsupported). Hah!

    she's pretty impressive, I'm just finishing reading her biography. Even though she rode around the world she still didn't learn to fix a puncture.
