  • The dropouts look a bit short.

Might limit ability to tension the chain if you want to run fixed.

  • what size cranks are you planning on using? hard to tell from the pics but is the bb a bit low?
it would help if you put the ebay link in to see the description.

Nah, there's just enough space in there. They just look shorter because the screws are wound forward.

I think it looks pretty damn nice. I'd be very tempted if I were you Gina.

  • thanks guys...
the link wont help much, its all in German.
    bb is 36 x 24
I've got 170 cranks at the moment but havent really thought about it yet.

  • I like that. Looks like a good quality frame.

What's the problem with that? :)

    no problem, just not helpful

    But it's perfectly intelligible! :)

Do allow the others to catch up. They'll never get there without training opportunities. :)

  • Those dropouts will be fine. Looks like a nice bike.

  • my german is good...:P

I can understand... after a bit of training from oliver...

  • Sorry to start yet another "is this bike worth converting" thread, but Im starting to have my doubts about whether the frame Ive got is worth converting or not.
I picked up a moser frame from OrganicOrigin two weeks ago, its a really nice frame and I really like mosers in general. Im just wondering if its worth going fixed with it though, or whether Id be better off trying to sell it on ebay and spending the cash on a decent second hand track frame.
This is my first attempt at going fixed so Id really appreciate some advice/opinions
    Pics are here http://www.londonfgss.com/thread25188.html
    Thanks

  • It'll be easy to convert that to fixed and should be a nice bike to ride. I'd go for it. Can't have too many mosers out on the road you know.

  • +1 For going for it so far then, thanks andyp

  • Stick with this if it's your first time. Won't take too long to get up and running.

  • Is there any particular reason you're not sure about converting it?

It looks like a nice frame and you said you like Moser's... so why not?

  • don't chop any bits off it ...... gear hangers gear lever mounts etc.
it may want to go back to being geared one day

  • what components or budget for components do you have?

  • Well the main reason Im in doubt is the whole, hub spacing chain line issues rather than the frame itself.
My budget is limited, but Ive got enough to spend on good parts where it counts. Im building up a set of dp18s on gran compes for the wheels, and will probably be going for a condor sugino chainset. Im just skimping on other less important parts to keep the budget down. I wont be cutting any of the braze-ons, hangers, will keep it gear ready in case I sell it later on.
Thanks for the replies, just needed a bit of reassurance I wasnt on to a lost cause, much appreciated.

Since were all aready here, does anyone know what bb I would need? Im guessing it will need to be italian threaded, but the only reasonable italian bb I can find is the Miche primato which is ISO, where as the Suginos Im after would be JIS. Am I just confusing myself here?

  • Measure the bb shell, if it's 70 mm across then it's Italian. (My Moser is Italian threaded). Buy the cranks then decide on a bb. You'll be able to find a JIS tapered one with Italian threading I'm sure. Places like Ribble and Parker International carry a wide stock of square tapered bbs.

What's the rear spacing, 126 mm? Mine is. I used a 120 mm Miche hub and then added some washers to the axle to space it out to fit.

  • Sheldon/Search and Spreadsheet of parts including measurements and you'll know excatly how it will work and how much it will cost, a good few hours work and you'll be there

  • Hmm, just been told its not actually a moser at all, its got moser decals but its too old to be a moser. This changes everything, fingers crossed its still something decent.
