i'm curious to know how much of the film was preplanned. i wouldn't have thought the budget was big enough for a lot of it, especially some of the really long hill bombing sections. you'd need hollywood style funds to plan out that and do it 100% safely.
I need to try and clear this planned comment I made up a bit, regardless of the fact I had nothing to do with the making of the film so I'm just a punter, not a pundit:
any film takes planning... so sequences will have been planned to enable the riding to be captured as smoothly as possible
there will have been more than one take sometimes
there will most likely have been people stationed at intersections at times who had radio or phone contact with the film crew so that the riders didn't get smacked into by a tram or a car or whatever
some sequences may have taken place at a time of day when the traffic was at its most agreeable - even if that was a time when there'd be loads of cars heading a certain way so that the riding could be done in a certain way
the (specially selected for being awesome) riders will have been busting their best shit possible for the cameras and will not necessarily ride to the grocery store in the same manner all the time
These are the kind of things I mean when I talk about the sequences being planned.....
the riding's still rad, the riders are still awesome, it's still a great showcase of road skills, but it's not day-to-day reality....
