  • Ridiculously easy. They're transfers on top opf the clearcoat. Took me about an hour all told.

What method did you use? Hairdryer?

  • For the steamroller, I think it was lighterfulid and a soft sponge. Can't remember for certain though.

I'll give it a try when I get the bike.

  • If you're patient (I'm not) they pick off quite well with a fingernail. There's lots of them though.

  • I thought that maybe I should update people in case it's useful to other people.

I went with the SE Lager in the end. The price and the fact I hadn't seen them anywhere before (whereas a mate of mine at work has a Plug) swayed me. Loads of people seem to love the Fuji but I'm wasn't after a track geometry, I'm not hardcore enough, and after seeing that 2nd hand Langsters cost as much as a new'n, that put my eBay dreams on hold. This review finally convinced me http://commutebybike.com/2007/11/08/out-of-the-box-se-lager/

Anyway, I'm loving the Lager. The decals started coming off as soon as I looked at them, and without them I think it looks kinda sweet. At first I thought that the 61cm frame would be a little large esp with the bullhorns, it is a bit long, but it gives a good low riding position when you need it without having to switch to drops. I've added a 18T sprocket and I couldn't be happier, I've been riding for 3 weeks and everything is good (except I got a puncture in my 2nd week on it).

I wouldn't recommend it though, cos I wouldn't want to see any others on the streets. Ah go on then if you're after a cheap OTP commuter.

  • sounds like a tank of a bike. glad you're enjoying it.

  • oppy?

  • oppy. legend.

  • (except I got a puncture in my 2nd week on it).
    .

if you didn't keep your tyres at a reasonable high psi, you'd very likely to get a puncture easily.

  • How about something a little flasher?

    Nice, so very nice....

Is this an OTP conversion? Forward facing dropouts?

I got a nice shard of glass stuck in it, it's just one of them things I guess. I haven't had a flat for months, it's almost as though someone knew I had a new bike.

  • I suppose with every new bike, the tyres need to pop it's cherry.

I hasn't had any puncture on mine yet for a year and a half, knock wood.

  • £289 complete or £95 frame only. good deal? Does any body know anything about them.

dont touch it, that excuse for a bicycle should be sold for no more than £95 complete. Check the skinny fork/integrated headset combo. Looks ridiculous, the bike is no better quality than a £60 mtb from sterlinghouse.co.uk

  • Thanks DFP.

    Must save more cash.

  • Is this an OTP conversion? Forward facing dropouts?

surprisingly its a specific built singlespeed bike by respected salsa.

Our partially polished, stainless steel, forward-entry horizontal dropouts make for easy chain tensioning. Interested in running fixed? Flip-flop the rear Surly New hub and add a track cog. Finishing touches include fender and rear rack mount braze-ons, and a pump peg.

  • sebby78 noted in the OTP £500, £800 thread that Strada Cycles are selling the Salsa Casserole for £600 built up.

I've not inculded in the list, as they don't advertise it as built up, but frame only for £375.

Yes, I agree that the forward facing drop-outs are a bit odd for its alleged design purpose.

What is wrong with forward facing drop-outs? For a non-track specific fixed gear/ single speed they make a lot of sense. They give perfectly good chain tension adjustability and make it easier to run gears if you want. You can also run full length mud guards and pannier racks with no wheel removal issues.

  • For the steamroller, I think it was lighterfulid and a soft sponge. Can't remember for certain though.

You can scrape them off with your fingernail. Add lighter fuel, hairdryer and patience and it's easier.

EDOT: Sorry - probably answered above. I just did the fork decals and it took me 30 mins

  • The steamroller frame is bombproof.

And the complete bike deal has decent enough components for the price

There are no real issues removing a wheel with rear-facing track ends and full mudguards, I run SKS Chromoplastics on a Tricross and it really isn't a problem (I too was concerned before I actually tried it.) You don't even need excessive clearance.

  • The mounting hole is very close to the wheel nuts though. Also the Tricross is a bit of a tank, very different to something like a Langster or the other more nimble bikes (my other one is a Giant Bowery.) Does get faster with slicks rather than the stock tyres. Perfect bike if you want rack/mudguards and are not in a particular hurry, it is relaxed and comfortable.
