For me you'd only need the gore one if it was permanently cold, for our milder winters the soft shell would be fine, I find unless its really cold I start to sweat like a bastard in mine, now the weathers turned milder, Im not wearing it as much as I don't need to..

althought it's brilliant when it's not so cold, which mean you'll only need to wear a t-shirt underneath and still be warm and comfortable, the extreme winter we had recently (well extreme to London), was fine when I put a long sleeve Merino baselayer, t-shirt and the hoodies combine, it was perfect.
Remember, this is an American company, their cycling clothes are usually designed for extreme winter, hence Milwaulkee(at least that what I assumed).
I wanted a green one too, but fuck it and went for a black softshell, you won't look back mate.
