dude go for the softshell, its what I have and its plenty warm, only thing is, personally I don't think it'll ever be as cold as it was this winter again so you won't use it as much as you think.
for me you'd only need the gore one if it was permanently cold, for our milder winters the soft shell would be fine, I find unless its really cold I start to sweat like a bastard in mine, now the weathers turned milder, Im not wearing it as much as I don't need to..
