Dear All
Ive just spoken to someone I found (through this forum) on another forum, who was at the scene.
If anyone else was there, or knows anyone that was there please please do get in touch. I am finding that everyone has their own tiny (or not so tiny) extra bit of info about the event. I think our 'family' forums are sometimes more efficient and productive than police investigations.
Every contact with any one who was with her, when I could not be, is a help.
Many thanks for all your support, you are very generous.
Kate Cairns
See you on the ride. -

I wonder if someone could post a definitive time for the start of the ride. At present there appears to be one body of thought that it will start between 9:00 am and 10:00 am (rather too early for a LFGSS event if experience is to be taken into account) and another that it will start at some time between 12 noon and 2:00 pm. Noon would seem to be a good time but could we please have a definitive answer which should, clearly, involve consultation with Eilidh's family.
Thanks.
See you there, whatever the time it starts.

Agreed, Shins is saying Noon-ish, and I know Greasy has said 9-10am.
Shins can you confirm the time please?
-
• #330
yes i can...will post tomorrow morning as giles has been pretty busy getting hold of him/organising has been tricky. Greasey and me are meeting up tonight.

hi all
as per above, ignore my previous 9ish start... shins is the man on this as he's liaisng directly with giles/velcro... shins' first post at the front of this thread is pretty up to date.
does anyone have a thought how we can all dismount at the site (which is narrow two lanes in either direction either side of the traffic island) as safely as possible and causing minimum disruption to traffic etc
hopefully all will be chilled and will dismount early and not all try and get to the island at same time bla bla
anyways, why am i always the worrier on this?
yo peeps

Hello
I spoke to Giles about this the other day. He was going to meet with the 'organising team' last night I think.
We decided the most dangerous thing to do was for us to stop and the site and all get off and mill around.
The best thing would be to go very slowly passed (like walking pace) and carry on through to the Mitre and the park, and park our bikes down there and then we can walk back up. We dont want 240 bikes blocking up the street. Will leave it to Giles or others to confirm.
Kate
PS I sent a private message to Hael, re his first posting but dont know if it went through as its not showing in my sent box.... any suggestions? (amateur forum person) -

Anything you decide, but FYI such memorial celebrations have often taken place over the years on Critical Mass rides, and the police who accompanied the ride (who I guess might not be on this one, and of course they no longer accompany Critical Mass) and motorists to whom the situation was explained were always very respectful. Sometimes, people are willing to make allowances for exceptions from the usual default of traffic flowing 24/7. But it needs good stewards who go from car to car explaining it.

When the time and place for the start is triple-confirmed, I'll edit the subject and send an email out.

• #335
ok, just off phone to giles and he had an excellent idea
"i reckon we slow ride past the site, all turn into the Mitre, lock up and then people can put some flowers down at their leisure on foot.
far too dangerous for 200 people to stop by the traffic lights"so well done him for that one
giles is gonna post and confirm the timings shortly
cant wait to see you all there, fingers crossed for good weather

VB sorry Velocio.. sorry Mr Velocio - We had a chat with Gilles last night and agreed the 12:30 start time at the Bandstand.
several of the seasoned forum members will help lead the way and be sure we all go the right route and together -
• #338
a couple of us, led by john dropout, did a recce of the route last night.... it seems ok, there are a few little sections of wierd single file cycle lanes that could be problematic, but on the whole it seemed ok.

I spoke to Giles about having proper marshalls who filter off from the front of the pack to block off junctions onto our route until we have all passed and then ride up through the fleet again and repeat. IS that happening? Also are we having pacemakers at the front and some people at the rear checking we dont loose anyone? Hi vis jackets good for marshalls and making motorists listen to you.
Ive been on the big skates through the city and they handle it really well. Im sure youve got it all under control. Can anyone confirm if we have a police escort?
Im just thinking safety, credibility, and pre-empting my parents concerns....!
PS Thanks for those that helped me contact Hael. I also tried to contact Seeds, who's boss's wife saw the accident. Anyone help me on that one? Big thank you.

the start time is 12:30...not 12:35 not 12:45...if youre late catch up. but please try and be ontime/early.

Have you had a look in the private thread for Seeds mobile number?
I have spoken to our friends in the police and they are happy with the plans for the day and see no need to provide a police escort.
We have the marshalls as Ray said, they will ensure folk get through the junctions, stay on route and deal with any irrate car drivers. I'll have a chat to you before on the day and introduce you to those that will help out -

No arm bands but bring and carry a flower (in your button hole, helmet, or whereever.) If anyone feels particularly generous, they might buy a bunch or two and distribute flowers to those who come without.

Dear all
I'm a friend of Eilidh and Giles.
Just wanted to let you all know that I think the support and sentiment you have expressed on this forum has been extraordinary and evidently says a lot about the cycling fraternity in London.
Also to let you know that as a keepsake for Giles and Eilidh's family, at their request, I'm making a short film of Saturday's ride.
Subsequently, there will be a couple of cameras at the bandstand and at Notting Hill Gate. I'd like to stress that this won't mean a news or film crew rocking up and shoving cameras in everyone's faces, or invading anyone's space at such a difficult time, far from it. The idea is to not film individuals but the collective gathering and to portray a sense of the coming together as well as the movement of so many riders en masse.
I've also got a couple of mini-cams, one of which will be mounted to Giles frame. I'm trying to find a forum member who would be prepared to take on the other camera, preferably someone who is going to be riding at the front of the pack. If there's anybody out there who's up for this, mail me and I can give more info.
Thanks and take care.
Jack
