  • [rant]Today I went out with an envelope full of sterling to try and finally find a frame. My first port of call, against my better judgement, was Brick Lane Bikes just to get an idea of what's around. Needless to say their prices were inflated (apparently because "the weather is getting good again") but moreover the service was fucking dire. I was eventually, after loitering hopefully for 10-15 minutes, seen to by the same girl that always serves me. i cannot imagine a ruder more fucking obnoxious person. she literally made me feel embarrassed to ask questions about the frames hanging from the ceiling with obscured price tags and sizes. she is one of these people that has the knack of taking everything you say and making it sound moronic. do people know the girl i mean? I really won't go there again, and this time i mean it.[/rant]

  • go and see roberto's emporium, he has lots of frames, he's fucking mental in the head but in a nice friendly way.

  • +1 yeah, go see Roberto Bicycletas!

  • i've looked at his frames at length but there are none quite right. though an old lugged steel one would be ideal.

also saw the "fixie inc. (what a name) peacemaker" at mosquito which is quite nice actually with really good details, but £415???! weren't hubjub doing them for 295 a few weeks ago?

  • roberto is great
    also jos

  • I went in to BLB to see Broken and was asked if I needed help by 3 people in about 2 minutes! They did make me feel as though I was distracting them from just hanging out.

what!!! have you actually been to roberto's place or just looked on the website. there is like 20 frames there and all sorts from nice shiny dolans to pink hipster mobiles. Jos also in the process of aquiring heaps as well, should be back any day now from holland.

  • also please tell me, you haven't just got £150 and reckon that will buy you a decent track frame...b3ecause it won't. something decent will be £200-300 2nd hand.

no i have only looked at the website. still waiting for an invitation to his home, fingers crossed. money-wise i'm more bothered about the frame than the cost; if it's right then i'll manage.

+2 you'll drool at some of the frame he has, you just missed out on that fancy schroeder he sold, went for 200gns i think? Hols him, you won't regret it :)

Bout a year back I walked in holding the folding and said

"I'd like that Dolan frame please" and pointed at one hanging from the ceiling.

Somehow ten minutes later I walked out without a Dolan, but with the idea I'd not return in a hurry.

  • Old lugged steel... you're in England.. it can't be that hard to find one!

    What size? What budget?

  • Speaking about terrible bike shops..

Cyclexpress.co.uk seems to have really attractive prices but if you care for good customer service or quick shipping for me is seems to be the worst place.

I placed my order as cyclexpress.co.uk a week ago and it's still in "processing" mode. I sent them few emails asking whats wrong. I got answer only for one - "should be shipped next week"..
After a week of waiting and checking my order status I finally canceled my order. I will buy same stuff probably at Evans. They charge more but at least they do care for their customers. I always have really quick and helpful answers to my emails. Also staff that works there is really helpful (Cut shop and the Waterloo one especially).

As a normal customer who just want's to get what he pays for I'm really surprised with such an unprofessional behavior.
I hope that this info will help other in choosing shop which is best for him.

  • I have bought from cyclexpress in the past and have always had good service. Maybe things have taken a downturn?

  • what is it with all these old thread resurrections? Kill them dead in the face.

  • Maybe people have been using the fucking search.
