SPD's for good transmission and the toe overlap will be similiar to clips and straps.
Personally not a massive fan of hill climbs with clips and straps, as when I pull up I tend to find the straps moving.
If you're not sure about making the transition to SPDs' tighten your PowerGrips up and stick with them.
