I don't think the prison sentence is the issue here, in my opinion he should have his license permanently revoked.
totally agree.

he isn't mentally fit to be in charge of a car. if he was a vet who put a cat in a washing machine he wouldn't be allowed to practice, if he was a dr who removed a persons heart when pissed.. he wouldn't be allowed to practice. at 40 this prick still has his growing up to do.
thing he is he can still go out and drink and drive and the worst they can do is extend his ban and maybe fine him.. which makes me think what you have to do to be banned from driving completely!? i think its impossible? -

A disgrace to the legal 'system' and humanity.

What a fucking disgrace, at least we now know, if you want to get away with killing someone you don't like, make sure you're in a car and they're on a bike, easy innit, you just didn't see them.

How they did not get the manslaughter charge to stick, I have no idea. 8+ pints and a 2 tonne vehicle on the public highway, and he gets away with "I didn't see him"? Fuck.
Don't be too quick to blame the judge, though - they're fettered by crappy sentencing guidelines and protocols, and might well be punishing the driver as far as the law allows.
Then change the fscking law.
In theory, that's what happens. In practice, sentencing guidelines get fucked about with so much that magistrates end up not knowing what end is up, and any defence barrister worth his salt will drive a truck through an ill conceived sentence.
If anyone wants to do some serious campaigning on this issue, you could join the LCC's Policing and Enforcement group, or work with CTC (Cyclists' Defence Fund) or RoadPeace, depending on where you're located. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved and work with great people dedicated to improving things.
But yes, the above case is not unusual at all, sadly. :(

It clearly isn't, but reading that it looks like some weird anti-cyclist wind up. Surely if he tried to cover the evidence, it is perverting the course of justice as well.
Scumbag -

Yep, they nicked one of them for perverting the course of justice, doesn't seem to have had much affect on the sentencing.
-
• #43
this is fucking ridiculous
-
• #44
i find it unbelievable that a person can use a vehicle as a lethal weapon, taking a life, but somebody charged and convicted with financial fraud will get a longer sentance. ~????"???????????????????????

a life for a life in my eyes
anyone killed a member of my family i wouldnt stop till they was a gonner
but that would leave me fucked, some one will try and kill me
truly shocking. I think it's safe to assume that yer average judge does not get about by bike.
