  • the point of having two braking systems is that if one breaks you still have the other.

is that why we have two brakes? in case one fail??

I thought it's all about controlling your speed with precision, how wrong I was!

  • i haven't used a rear brake in about 28 years riding. In fact I try to do without brakes altogether, except in extremis.

  • Had my front brake cable snap on friday there, that was fun, never got to enjoy riding brakeless as my lockring came a little loose soon after, fun.

Apologies for not contributing to the thread whatsoever.

That, of course, is why you are special. Has Em had the tattoo done?

  • i think your exagertaing how bad use of the front brake is in the wet. ive emergancy stopped plenty of times, its really not a problem.

its amazing, i rode all night yesterday in the wet and i didnt come off once, and havnt ever done before. i dont know how im still alive.

theres the age old, what if your brake fails, well what if your chain comes off/snaps on brakeless fix. its rare and doesnt happen if you keep your bike well.

dont be silly, we all know that stopping with a front brake is better than skidding with a rear wheel, just think about it. on my fix i dont really skid all that much, only for fun, the rear is for speed control the brake is for stopping.

  • I have two brakes on my fixed/ss bike, not least because I sometimes swap round to ss, although I'm mostly running it fixed. I also quite like a sort of 'road' look, so that two brake levers plus hoods on the drop bars are a must. :) Not very fashionable, I know, but I like it that way.
