Campagnolo Record Pista chainset

Posted on
  • Hi,

Does anyone know if I should only use the Record Pista BB with the current Record Pista chainset? The Record Pista BB is 111mm asymmetrical according to Campy's site.
I've ordered a Centaur Bottom Bracket Superlight Silver 111mm, hoping it will be ok, but I think it will be symmetrical.
To complicate things I'll be using an old Sovus 110mm flip flop hub as my frame is 1940's.

    Any definite answers appreciated, thanks.

  • cosmonaut, not sure if you've done this already, but check the transmission database, which is the repository for all things chainline, it should have the info you need.

I've got a record pista crankset, and am going to be teaming it up with a centaur bb, so what you propose should be correct.

also have a gander at this website, as he's got info re current specs of track components

  • I use this on two bikes, works fine and under £6.00!

With which crank? Classic pista or newer?

  • Holy hell! Things are so much cheaper there! I'm moving to England. I hear they speak American there, and they get heathcare. Done deal. Of course it's been no colder than 45, and no hotter than 85 here for three years, and doesn't rain much. You just can't have it all...

  • I installed a new Pista on a Chorus 111mm symmetrical yesterday, and it measures fine.

The lack of weather sealing makes the Record Pista BB an iffy choice for road use. If you rummage around there is a 111mm Record Strada, now discontinued I believe. Think if you dig through the Campag spares pdfs You can find the road seals and stick them in the Pista BB.

The Campagnolo site states that the Record Pista BB is asymmetrical, but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence to the contrary.

Check the Transmission Database (that's what it's there for!) and search the forum, I'm pretty sure this has come up before.

Make sure you know which Centaur BB you're buying. The "superlight" (hollow axle) Centaur is black, and fits with internally splined cups. The cheap one is silver and uses the externally notched cups.

Black one is worth about £30 or so, silver half that.

  • 110mm rear end doesn't make a difference, you should have same chainline, ~43-44mm from centre

    New Record Pista.

  • New Record Pista.

Thanks! I have a new Veloce BB 68x111. I was wondering if it would accept an older Campy pista or strada crankset.

  • Should be fine. I'm not aware that Campaag have ever changed their axle inclinations.

  • The taper is ISO so you'll be fine... I'm in exactly the same boat, doing a lot of chin-rubbing on the BB front atm...

  • I can offer a proper Campag Pista bottom bracket.

English threaded, 111mm, and spindle stamped 68-SPc

    Originally designed for C-Record cranks.

  • I can offer a NOS Axle 111mm, but no bearings.

  • I think I may go cartridge...

    Pm me

  • Bastards! I was asking for one of those a coupla days ago! Fucking Yanks! ;]

  • I've ran the current Campagnolo Record Pista crankset on a Veloce BB (AC-H) on my Condor Pista with no issues. Only moved to the Record Pista BB when I built my S-Works (now sold to Chopsicle).

  • 111mm is for the new stuff.

Not for your cool vintage crank.

Yeah, but I'm finding it difficult to locate a 109mm axle anywhere... Gonna have to speak to my HH jumbler contacts... :/

  • Seeing as we're talking axles:
Anyone got a 115 long axle (NR double) for 68 shell?

    Teenslain about to PM you

  • Thanks for the advice chaps, although http://businesscycles.com/tr-refspec.htm#chainline says that the chainline will be different with a 110mm hub. Confusing. Perhaps I'll need a 2.5mm spacer?

what do you mean anecdotal? has anyone measured?

    Symetrical

but the campag website indeed says otherwise, and looks that way from the pic although it's hard to tell what it would look like installed.looks to be a small distance. Think I'll get the centaur instead.

  • Centaur + New Campag Pista has worked for me... just!

A lot will depend on your frame design (chainstays/flex). I've got about 1mm clearance between my stays and the back of the spider. The chainring clearance is ample, and I've no problems with heel strike either. The chainline is accurate. Having given it some oomph, there doesn't seem to be an issue with the spider/stay interface, so I'm not going to bother sourcing & fitting a 1mm spacer between the BB and driveside cup.

Never really know what's going to happen until you try :S
