it's straightforward, it's only 3 letters, you won't even need to quickly glance at what it said.
RIP probably is overused, every gravestone I saw have 'RIP' on it, no originality at all! when will they learn?.

I am with you Ed. i'll put together a stencil and spray it on the street by the bike
if anyone has an A4 laminated with zip ties we can put those with it.
-
• #129
I might go down later with something to put on it
Passed that one again today, just after 3, and spotted a small posy has appeared on it.

I can do an A4 laminated R.I.P. and put it on the Camley Street ghost bike, its just up the road from where I work if you like?
-
• #131
would it be worth having an A4 laminated R.I.P but also having the web address for ghostbikes on the bottom corner just so that people know that there is not just one and that people are doing this for a reason, may help raise awareness of the campaign.

Just been down myself and added another bunch - a woman actually stopped and asked me what it was all about
Excuse the pony phone pic

Are other forums aware of the work Pip et al have put into this?

Saw the Southampton Row one yesterday. Looks great, well done Pip (et al). People are definitely intrigued, need to turn that into awareness (but also respect the views of the families).
So now there's a ghost bike at the start of my commute home (Holborn) and presumably will be one near the end soon (Notting Hill).
:(

Just been chatting to Grow Up about these, well done to all the people involved for spending the time and energy to do it. (I didn't read Pip's post about the parts being seized up during the respray). I honestly can't believe people would attempt to nick them or bits off them.

Added a d-lock to the bike on Streatham Hill.
Unfortunately been informed the one in Tooting has gone. -

Great work chaps, will chuck an old lock I don't use on the one on Blackfriars Bridge in the week... Brilliant pix, Nick... Awesome job...

Car advertising is also a major source of income for the whole media, which is why you hear so many scare stories (fewer in the last few years, as cycling organisations have been doing some intense media work) designed to put people off cycling.
bollocks.

Yeah, nice idea. I might add a spare lock to the one I pass on my way to work everyday. A nod to the thieving that goes on in this town.

bollocks.
Pray explain.

OK, So I've got a researcher for BBC News asking for assistance:
I'm doing some research about ghost bikes.. I'd like to make a tv report about the tributes I've seen around London. I work for BBC News. Can you help by telling me a bit more about them? Or can you suggest someone else for me to get in touch with?
I've hit up Greasy already but I think he's busy as she's looking for a quickish turnaround.
Would anyone else like to talk to her and give her whatever info she needs.
I'm particularly keen to see those who have helped out get recognition, and put across why it's important, hence my asking here. However if you feel that you can explain it all to someone else sensitively and balancing issues, then you'll be good too.
Please PM me with your email address and your phone number and I'll connect you and the BBC girl.

Just make sure they do it properly

Hence wanting input from someone involved. No-one has got back to me yet though.

fine work & work they do.... I was in the back of an Addison Lee on the way have broken wrist checked over... the driver asked about my injuries, we started talking about how I was taken out by a car and he mentioned the ghost bikes..... he was shocked to see how many there are - knew they were bike accident related, but did not know they marked cyclists deaths..... they have increased his awareness of cyclist's vulnerability

The Penton rise bike needs replacing, in respect to the families wishes and becuase that junction is terrible, its quick and so easy to get caught on the inside, i have come close twice there and both times the driver got abusive with me... one of those times i was racing the other was just on my way to work

The new ghost bike in Greenwich would make a good (sorry probably wrong choice of word) photo opportunity for this article as it is almost completely covered with flowers atm.
I dont know about the RIP bit, I believe a message such as what I said above will have more impact. RIP is unfortunately overused and does not catch peoples attention like actually stating what happened also the Brighton one was easily readable from driving past as I saw it long before I knew about ghostbikes just from riding past.
