  • That's crazy, all black?
They're even a danger to other cyclists, I mean some roads get pretty dark and if you're slightly short sighted like me, those guys are invisible.

danger to everyone, those cyclist go slighty faster than walking, and even peds won't have time to notice a cyclists is approaching until it's too late.

  • @oliver: That's the one. Getting a bit warm now it's not around freezing though..

@Ed: Yeah, plus they tend to have huge bags on either side of their rear wheel (forgot the name for it). Worst is at hyde park corner where you get about 20 of those coming at you..

  • pannier you mean.

  • Do we think nodders realise they are hated by almost all road users?

  • Out on the Peel Road then?

Yes, Just me the wind and the rain.

  • Do we think nodders realise they are hated by almost all road users?

Am I alone in not hating them? They provide me with daily amusement on my morning and evening commute, you guys need to lighten up a bit!

Comments about my weight are best left out of this conversation thank you very much.

  • i wear a fluoro waterproof/windproof jacket for night/early morning cycling, doest that make me a nodder ?
    (im quite concerned now)

  • What a cunt! If anyone manhandles me on my bike, they'll get a slap

No that makes you a really really cool dude....

  • So what makes a 'nodder' nod ? Are they invalids ?

  • i noticed actually that there's quite an anti fluoro thing going on.
I first noticed it when Dale mentioned it when i bought some spokes off him.
Not that I'm singling anyone out here.

The rub for me is that fluoro does make you MORE visible.
That makes it worth every penny.

  • cyclists are only visible when drivers bother to look out for them.

"sorry didn't see you there, you should be wearing bright clothes"

"I am wearing bright clothes you plum"

When you realise how hard it is to keep track of a cyclist when driving, i think you'd appreciate the fluoro standing out.
I know this by experience, and i can say that fluoro makes it a lot easier for drivers to see you.

I think it's compete bullshit that fluoro makes no difference. It does.
Thats why i dont get the anti.

  • it does make a difference, but only when driver do decided to look out, I have Fluoro on in the past (old hand-me-down one, got it replaced by a Swrve jacket), and honestly the behaviour of vehicle drivers is just the same, fluoro make it easier for them to spot when they decided to look out for cyclists as they should.

  • Judo?! When was the last time you saw a fight anywhere in the world and one of them started doing Judo moves?

    Fashion Avenue, Manhattan, NYC.

Years ago, 2 black guys, walking in different directions, bumped into each other. The tall one (probably 6' 5") shoved the shorter man (maybe 5' 5") away, shouting at him, "Look where you're going".

The shorter guy picked himself up from off the ground, and slowly headed for the tall guy, saying, "What the f*ck you push me for"? He was rolling up his sleeves as he spoke.

The people passing could see what was about to happen, and instantly formed a circle around both me, shouting, "Fight, fight, fight"!

The tall guy was visibly laughing at the shorter guy, who was advancing towards him, with a serious look on his face. The tall guy started throwing jabs down at the shorter guy's head. He was hamming it up, and playing to the crowd.

Suddenly, the shorter guy rushed under the tall guy, picked him up, and with a slow-motion turn, had the tall guy above his head, then body-slammed him into the ground.

The crowd, including me, couldn't believe it, and we were all roaring with laughter....at the tall guy, who was winded on the deck.

fixed just to keep within topic.

that goes without saying, but i think, in my own mind,
drivers have a little more respect for you if they know that you've done your part too.
    i.e fluoro and sufficient lights.

It's meeting them half way. Like all other roads uses MUST do by law.

  • not when they're weaving left and right like a maniac as if the rules of the road doesn't applied to them! what an irony.

  • I have 7 lights attached to me, I think I do my part, I may add an eighth light soon though, possibly even a ninth also...

  • not when they're weaving left and right like a maniac as if the rules of the road doesn't applied to them! what an irony.

your quoting exceptions, which imply you hate drivers.

The aim is to live with drivers, since that is the best and only sensible option.

  • i never have any problems with any vehicles, nor do i ever get angry with drivers/peds. i dont wear hi-viz or anything, usually jeans and a hoodie, usually have lights.

  • your quoting exceptions, which imply you hate drivers.

I was talking about the nodder, not the drivers.

  • well, thinking about it, i've only really lost it once with this bus driver who deliberately hit me from behind last year, i was so angry i threw my mountain bike through his front window, then quickly rode the fuck off (with my handlebars all bent).

    best road rage incident ever.
