What the fuck is the 'courier community'?
-
• #21
What the fuck is the 'courier community'?
A community where all the couriers live. They mostly live in one part of London, which has been informally dubbed 'Courierkenwell'. There's even a neighbourhood watch, on which they take turns to look out for bike thieves and drivers who don't indicate. They also have meetings at the local courier community centre. Don't pretend it doesn't exist.

will, surely you've noticed allot of us hanging out together, doing rides together, drinking together, etc etc?
That's kinda like a community. But with more alcohol than most.

I once heard an American fighter pilot refer to the "F15 community". It's a bullshit word in my view. As far as I can remember Nhatt we have never had a drink together; that doesn't mean I don't regard you as a friend and a comrade or that I don't have solidarity with other couriers. I just don't like the idea that we are a 'community'. And 'elite' maybe, but not a community :)

Well, another rider got sacked today; no appeal, no notice, just fuck off.... Maybe I'm not feeling the love around couriering tonight. Or maybe I'm just old and bitter. Or both. Or neither. Or both.

Well....
Will, I agree with you in some respects. Yes, I consider you a comrade, as I do all couriers. Then their are some of us that all hang out and know each other fairly well and work hard to create a sense of community between us, especially in regards to helping to take care of each other if we get hurt.
yup, its true...
