today going eastwood over tower bridge i noticed a man driving and typing a text message into his mobile phone. i had see him at the traffic lights on the southern side of the bridge doing the same thing. so when i got to the traffic lights i beckoned over the traffic police man and informed him that the volkswagen driver seven cars back had been using his phone while driving. when he approached he stepped into the middle of the road , hand held high palm facing the direction of mr sms in the classic "i'm a policeman and you must stop stance" i looked back and he was having words with him. it infuriates me that people still dont care enough about their driving licence or more importantly other road users and give less than 100% attention. what will it take for it to be an offence for a mobile phone to even be switched on in a motor vehicle. i think that is the only way. then if you are stopped and its on you get 3 points end of story. not inside your bag or in the boot and on silent, ON AND YOUR BUSTED. harsh maybe but it might save a few lives and make motorists think more about other road users.
ps. i dont hate cars.
