  • LFGSS,

I need some advice - Have found this frame, and have been told the forks are Colnago, but the frame is unknown. It's a nice shape, pretty subtle, but it looks a bit battered and beat. Nothing I'd not be able to sort myself. Waiting for serial no., but from what I understand the seller doesn't really know.

The asking price is 400EUR. I think it's a bit pricey. What does everyone think is a reasonable price?

    Your thoughts appreciated!

  • looks nice!

  • But do you think £360 is too much?

  • Bit pricey, imo.

  • £360 is too much in my book - would be ok if paint work was in good condition, but I would want to get it shotblasted and resprayed. But then that is just me...

That having been said, I'm about to pay over the odds for a frameset I believe has my name all over it....

You have to make your own mind up!

  • Forks aren't Colnago IMO - similar design as the legendary Colnago Precisa fork, but straight leg forks aren't exclusive to Colnago. Bit pricey but if you really like it then... it's up to you!

  • I think it's pretty tight, but I ain't gonna ruin myself over it. I know he's trying to stiff me, just wanted to what people think is a reasonable offer.

  • £250ish would be what I was willing to pay for it. £270 at a push. Are the Dropouts or BB stamped? Do you know what tubeset it is?

  • He's gonna get back to me - not holding out much hope for a useful answer.

  • it does seem a little pricey.

but the value depends on the manufacturer and tubing - the sticker looks like a columbus one to me but there are more knowledgable people who will prob be able to tell yuo from that tatty looking sticker - although it could be something that someone has just stuffed on there to make it look more expensive.

frame numbers might help you locate the manufacturer as different makes use different patterns of letters and numbers.

another mark of quality is frame weight; as a rule of thumb better tubesets are ligher for the same strength. so find the frame weight and compare it to something of similar size.

at the end of the day its a little tatty, but is a nice looking bike and you like it offer him what you think its worth.

  • Sage advice above, as usual...

Does the top-tube look a bit tweaked where it meets the lug at the seat-tube...or is that too much coffee talking?

  • Yeah it does look a bit odd, it just goes very flat all of a sudden - I think it's supposed to do that.

I have entered negotiations with the seller, all your advice has bolstered my argument, so thanks! Will let y'all know the outcome.

  • I'd say based on recent ebay.de prices of similar framesets the 400€ is not an outrageous asking price but not cheap either - that's if it really is Columbus tubing with no dents, with Campy BB and headset etc.

  • Looks very familiar to mine. I have no idea of it's maker though.
The rear dropouts are gipiemme and the forks are columbus.
Similar paintwork too though I'm pretty sure my paint probably isn't the original...
If you look at my downtube it's aero shaped. All steel and the lugs look identical to the one you're looking at.

I think €400 is a bit expensive but it does look nice.

  • Todd: I WANT YOUR PAINT SCHEME BADLY!

  • On further inspection. The one you've pictured has a different downtube and dropouts.
Looks like 700c forks too though they might not be the original.
It really could be a number of bike builders.
I'm sure it'll be top quality no matter who built it.

  • i think €400 is fine, its the fact the pound is fucked

  • i suppose tt frames aren't just built by any old crappy frame maker ? ( somebody prove me wrong by posting a new line of curvy tubed unicraps )
the curvy tubes prove that it is some slightly higher calibre of bike ( i think )
i can't think of any companies who make standard bikes with curvy tubes

  • i think €400 is fine, its the fact the pound is fucked

True. That price a year ago would've been much better. I'd be looking at paying around £250 personally. Thing is when you want something and there's a demand, you gotta pay up.

  • Yes the pound is fucked. I heard they lost it this morning, but they found it down the sofa. Todd, you're paint scheme is mental, but in the best way possible. And you're right, I'm told the fork are 700c.

I do agree that you gotta front up a bit more if it's 'worth' more to you, but I don't like having the piss taken.

Cheers for all your words people.

  • balls in there court, you have to play the game.

  • Deffo not a Colnago fork. Pricey IMHO

  • roadiesean; What makes you think that? Important for me to back to seller with a good explanation!

  • Just been doing some Google imaging; looks like the clover logo is missing from the top of the forks, so I guess this is a big give away...

  • not necessarily
