  • My apologies fruitbat, my blind fury has led me to generalise, though I do mean specifically those that struggle to walk let alone ride a fixed.

  • Bring back entrapment

  • I don't know why I'm looking, it's eating me up but this guy - http://www.gumtree.com/london/84/35266384.html - has listed this bike three times now coming down from £200 to £125 anyone missing it?

  • epic fail on the front brake wire.

  • i stole some eclairs from a corner shop once.
i was guilt ridden and hid them in a bush, went back, paid the guy and when i came back to the bush they were gone.
    Karma?

that's the funniest thing Ive read in a long time- good giggles!

I'm not sure that is stolen to be honest, its a conversion, rather large frame, and running on 27" wheels, so £200 was a high price to begin with.
His number doesnt come up multiple times when you google, so I'd tend to think this was actually legit. Although obviously I could be wrong

  • Missing it? I'd be glad to be rid of that POS.

  • @el squie & 606,
thanks for keeping eyes on the internets, I've just got back from a work trip and now the gumtree links are dead :( it seems that I snoozed and subsequently lost.
onto the 2nd hand parts area...

  • It may not be much use, but I checked my browser cache and the phone number he was using was 07516932402.

  • I got home to my place of residence tonight to find that the "secure" bike room had been somewhat cleaned out. No forced entry, so whoever it was must have had one of the electronic keyfob toys to get into both the front gate and the room itself - yay for suspected inside jobs.

So, I'm now missing a totally stock Charge Plug Freestyler, complete with all the reflectors, and with a pair of shimano M520 pedals on it :(

Insured, thankfully - but still a pain in the ass... went into the bike room before and there's lots of cut locks all over the floor, not a pretty sight at all. I've called the police, apparently someone will call me back tomorrow to get bike details/frame numbers etc.

    Off to gumtree/ebay I guess :'(

  • fucking hell, that's a professional jobs! they clearly spend a lots of time planning out the raid.

how many bikes do you suspected has been stolen beside your?

  • I would guess at least 7 or 8 bikes, if not more.. there are a lot of gaps in the room :/ When I called the police they already had a file open, so they're well aware.

I couldn't see a single single speed left in the room (there used to be at least 3), so there may be some other unhappy forum members to come out of the woodwork yet.

  • shame the bike room doesn't have CCTV like they do in certain train station (wimbledon for instance), it was a bit queer to hear that there's lots of broken locks on the floor, they usually take it with them.

  • Yeah.. some CCTV would be awesome right now. I was surprised to find the remnants of locks also, however it made for a nice photo to show the insurance company - "look, here's where it was locked to the solid immovable object".

  • so how does this work im a bit slow there are these secure bike rooms protected by a pincode or sumin where you can come in and lock your bike?

  • Yeah, I live in a gated apartment complex, and within that there's a closed off room with a bunch of bike hooks and lock loops bolted quite solidly to the walls. To get into the closed off room you need an electronic keyfob that's been activated for the room lock.

  • oh, right a keyfob, i figured if it was a pin number, you can often just see the rubbed off numbers and try out the combinations.

Does the electronic lock still work? Maybe they found the keys to it.
Or just stuck a big ass magnet and confused the shit out of it to unlock.

  • Electronic lock still works... And no sign of forced entry. The current thinking (according to the note in the lobby) is that someone got their hands on a keyfob - they're deactivating them all on Friday and reprogramming ones that people request so at least they're doing something to try and stop it happening again.

Here's hoping they don't come back for more before Friday, although the bikes that are left in the room now probably have very limited resale value.

yeah no, they wont come back.

By the sounds of it they were pretty skilled burglars, and im sure they're not dumb enough to hit the same place twice. Im sorry for this though....seems like such a safe place and nothing to worry about.

All I can say is always make sure you put on as many and as best locks on as you can.

How was it locked then? For us to know what these thieving bastards can cut through

  • Just an Abus Steel-O-Chain 810 through the frame, cut clean through the link - half the link was sitting on the floor.

There was also half a pretty thick Kryptonite cable also sitting on the floor, sliced clean through - that wasn't mine though.

hmm.... cut through the chain link? so did they have one of these

Or did they bash through the welding of the link with a hammer, was the chain lying on the floor?

also, sorry for the amount of questions, what time of the day did this happen? Or when do you believe it happened, at night? Anyone hear any noise, bangs?

    ?

Not necessary, sometime a simple angle grinder work just as fine.

well what im saying then, that surely you cant get through a D lock with an angle grinder, why not put a small d lock on the bike too then?

  • You can actually, it just take a lots longer to cut through the D-lock.

  • You can cut through that chain with a decent set of bolt-cutters. There was a video showing this earlier in the thread.
