Singlespeed Project w/ Pompino

Posted on
  • I plan on building an everyday singlespeed bike for city traffic.

So, after a long time of browsing around, finding a good frame for my project, I decided to choose the OnOne Il Pompino.

Cause I'm not really experienced in building bikes I have some questions left:

The Pompino is available in 120mm and 135mm hub spacing. Which one is more common and even more important which width is more compatible to hubs and cranksets?

And what are the differences or pros/cons of the 2 versions?

I hope this is the right Forum for a thread like this.

    regards

  • JAgrazy, if you want to ride fixed/single speed, then the 120mm option is the one you need, as its the right spacing for the majority of track hubs, and also means you can use the majority of track cranks out there, 135mm is the spacing if your going to put gears on it...

check out the transmission database so you can see which combinations of crank, bottom bracket, rear hub and cog you can run...

  • 135mm is the spacing if your going to put gears on it...

well this answered my question 110%!

so I'll have to get a 120mm and a hub which fits in.

  • seeing as you have little experience building you may as well get the on one track wheelset while you're there. Its a decent budget wheelset and pretty strong too...

  • Actually I have to order it because I'm from Germany. Is there any comparable wheelset available?

  • The on-one fixed/track wheel set seems to be good value and well built. 120mm is standard track hub spacing so any fixed gear wheel set you can find will suit, but given the power of the Euro the On-one track set looks like good value for money.

Edit: I'm a huge fan of the Pomp frame too, one of those frames that does heaps of things really well. Some people may not like its looks but it is so flexible that you can't go wrong, and for the price its great.

  • Are the on one wheelsets only fixed? because I'm lookin for a freewheel or flipflop hub..

Think these are the hubs they. Double sided fixed, but you can chuck a screw on free wheel on no problems.

  • I've got over 10 k on one of those hubs, still doing fine.

  • A 135mm hub will build into a stronger wheel, so I'd suggest using an mtb disk hub and using a Velo solo bold on cog. Strong nicely sealed hub. Rob

  • I'm goin to get the Pompino from Chainreactioncycles because of the cheap price and free delivery to Germany.

This offer stunned me, too. It's like half of the price in Germany. Will also get a pair of these badboys, because I'm not able to find an offer for the OnOne complete wheels with Free/Fixed hubs?!?!?!?! Any idea or link?

Now I'm just wondering which good (and cheap :D) crankset you guys would recommend me to use with the Miche Xpress?

on one wheels here. They dont have any in stock at the moment, but I'm sure if you messaged craig nasty (he works at planet x) here on the forum he'd let you know when they're building more or getting the parts in.. check GA2G's list of cranks here:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread14421.html or check out his definitive list of lists thread in the bikes and bits section...

  • 2x Novatec Track Hub HF + Mavic Open Sport

    • 1x Freewheel cog. - 170€

    Crankset:
    Kinex BB - 107mm BSA
Miche Team 135mm w/ Gebhardt (would be something like 60eur all together)

does this work? The novatec hubs are 120mm

  • I recognised that the Kinex BB is a JIS built!
So I choosed the Miche Primato Bracket with ISO Norm but still no idea if it fits with the chainline ;)
