i agree about the themed pubs. i wouldn't be caught dead in an "aussie" pub.
people like to be reminded of home, and sometimes hang out with people who come from the same place. there doesn't have to be anything nationalistic about that. most of my friends here are british, but i do have plenty of aussie friends too. i don't seek them out, but equally i don't avoid them.
i do feel a bit hyper-australian living here though. maybe it's because half the time i walk into the pub some british wit hears my accent and decides to have a chat about the 2005 Ashes or the 2004 Rugby World Cup, or have a go at our "lack of culture". we don't always bring it on ourselves.
