    day 2

    poor Sir Chris :(

  • Ha.. I just PM'd you about the racing on Sky :)

  • that's track cycling nobody cares about that anymore it's old news

  • Well.. it's on until the Tour of Cali starts. Hang on.. Monday.. wtf?

  • that's track cycling nobody cares about that anymore it's old news

oh yes, especially on this site.
    what was I thinking..

  • Do they have fluoro 1998 sneakers and matching hubs? If not.. not interested.

  • is there anywhere I can see clips of these races on the web? i don't have eurosport or sky...

    ouch

How come they're all under different teams? Is this usual?

Racing as SKY + HD team: Chris Hoy, Jamie Staff, Jason Kenny, Victoria Pendleton
**Racing as Great Britain: **Endurance - Rob Hayles, Chris Newton, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, Pete Kennaugh, Lucy Martin, Alex Greenfield; Sprint - Ross Edgar, Matt Crampton, David Daniell, Anna Blyth, Helen Scott
**Racing as 100% ME team: **Mark Christian, Andy Fenn, Luke Rowe, Erick Rowsell, Lizzie Armitstead, Katie Colclough, Joanna Rowsell

  • I've been looking for tv feeds but haven't found anything

  • Sky+ HD is a registered UCI Track team sponsored by Sky. 100% ME is also a registered UCI team.

This give BC the opportunity to put 3 teams/rider in to World Cup events. The French do the same with the Cofidus riders.

yes, trade teams have been allowed to enter World cups for the last couple (3??) years or so........probably to increase participation, but this may scare off smaller nations.....I've not noticed if any of these trade teams are mixed Nationality, probably not as they probably enter with the blessing / in collaboration with their National Federations.

It's interesting that cycling (road/track) has had this problem with/uncertainty about national teams versus privately-sponsored teams for a long time, probably because venues don't deliver enough advertising revenue and the best advertising spaces are on the riders, as well as of course that spectators at road races generally don't pay any admission charges (apart from VIP areas etc.) and track venues are small and don't take that many spectators. Are there other possible reasons?

  • World Cup level track racing in it's current form has been around since about 1995, so not as long as the Pro Road circuit. So the format is new and has not been grabbed by sponsors. It's also been a less popular form of cycling with less interest from the public, tho this is growing. It was set-up to help feed the World Champs and Olympics with the best riders from the the various nations of the world.

So now every nations has the chance of competing at world class level (normally there are 5 rounds to the World Cup) before the World Champs or Olympics. It is also used as a qualifying process for those events.

Six Day racing on the other hand has had hugh sponsor involvement from early on. It has always been a form of entertainment rather than a competition.

I'm sure we will see more and more trade teams competing in the World Cup events in the future. Can only be good for the sport. Eventually I think there will be more events in the circuit with some clashing. Same as the road is now, many of the big team compete in more than one event in different areas on the same day.
