• I got a BMX style helmet thinking I'd look cooler than the suburban dad types in those 'brain cage' things. However, catching a glimpse of myself in a mirror the other day I realized I really don't. I look more like a smurf preparing for nuclear armageddon.

  • the pro-helmet lobby do piss me off with their assertions and unfounded declarations

Any 'authorities' trying to tell me what's in my best interests piss me off.

It's all part of the dumb down. In broken Britain the lunatics have taken over the asylum. Freedom of choice is being replaced with 'experts' telling us what to think, and what to do. Of course, all it's really about is vested interests and money, as usual.

Pretty soon there will be taxes on cycling, compulsory cycle training, and helmets will be mandatory. Who's that gonna benefit? Me? No. Helmet manufacturers, training organisations, the government? Yes.

Why not make steel toecaps compulsory too, to protect the feet. And, of course, heavy duty gloves. Why not force folk to wear a suit of armour, 'in their best interests'.

    Fuckers.

  • IT'S A CONSPIRACY!

Helmet for long rides, usually not for short ones. No real logic to that, I just find it hassle to carry a helmet round with me.

  • what about those old school cycle helmets, the ones with like 5 strips of foam, lengthways on the head, held together by leather/nylon strapping, you know what I mean? Do they still make them anymore?

years ago you had to wear some kind of helmet when you raced. most riders wore the hairnet helmet but didnt really want to. there was a vogue for really tiny ones to be worn just about perched on top of your head. worn correctly they will offer more protection that a cotton hat but really it depends on the speed at which you are travelling when you head comes into contact with the immovable object be it ground, track or vehicle. if the force or speed is broken by your shoulder, arm etc then it will do something. all helmets i feel will offer a level of protection over your naked head. the bs kite mark rule okay sets a standard but its just a get out clause for the manufacturers maybe. last year "it was our fault" but next year "we told you that you shouldnt be using that helmet anymore".
    feel me?

  • I have only once had the sublime opportunity to tell some nosey fuckface that "you can shove your helmet up your arse".
Unfortunately my subtle double entendre was wasted on the halfwit.
