  • so, it seems we're rolling with this "book" idea for the family. tonight fred and i chatted at souths and he's going to pick up something nice tomorrow and give it to me in the afternoon. i will either take it to/pass it on to someone for the following events this week,

Tuesday - Trixie Chix, polo, & northsontour/alockett's gathering at the scult head
Wednesday - Rollapoluzza (and I can swing by easts if anybody's gonna be there - send a PM)
    Thursday - Wests
    **Sunday **- VDay Polo tournament
    Monday - Souths

If anybody has any suggestions, please do make them known... and I was thinking it would be a good idea to come up with some sort of opening "letter" or explanation to put on the first page, as in briefly who we are and why we care, so if anyone would like to write that, please do.

If you can't make it to any of those events, or are outside of London, but you'd like to contribute (even just a signature, or short sentence) PM me and I can give you my address if you'd like to mail me something to paste in the book.

And if any designers or artists had pictures they wanted to put in the book they can be pasted in, too.

So .. yes... I guess this is the plan?? ... I think it will mean a lot to them to see how many people are truly moved by what happened to Eilidh. So look for me/the book this week at these events and let me know if there's anywhere else you'd like it to turn up.

  • If you can't make the events or are out of London, please post your thoughts and messages in the original rider down thread here https://www.londonfgss.com/thread16171.html. These messages will go in to the book. Please note that time is short as our intention is to get the book to her family by Monday next week...

  • good work

  • So -

this schedule needs revision as the book must be posted by Friday afternoon in order to arrive in time for Eilidh's funeral.

TONIGHT : **TUESDAY - Trixie Chix, Polo, Scult Head **(alockett's bday/north-on-tour)
*WEDNESDAY* - Rolla/easts if its happening
    *THURSDAY *- Wests

FRIDAY - I have a break from **12:30-2:30 and if people want to roll down on their lunch breaks for a chance to sign it, I am already in Central** so I can go to a cafe or somewhere and hang out with the book for those hours (& possibly longer if that helps), because then it will need to be posted... so people let me know if this would work for you...

Also if you'd like to sign but can't make it to any of these outings, add your condolences to the original thread or PM me because maybe I can meet you somewhere...

    Cheers all!

  • kattt - could we take it to Cavendish on Friday morning (Cavendish permitting?)

Yeah, great idea. I go to school right by there, I can drop it off at 9:30 and it may actually be a better idea to just leave it there all day for anybody who can make it central to sign it, then I can pick it up around 4 to take it to the post... I'll pm Hassan.

  • Good work Kattt.

  • It is heartwarming to hear such lovely tributes to Eilidh, especially from those who could not have known her.

...you can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she lived
you can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she has left
your heart can be empty because you can't see her
or you can be full of the love she shared
you can remember her and only that she is gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on

    ( after david harkins)

  • Most of us did not know her. Perhaps this verse from John Donne expresses the reason why we grieve.

*No man is an island, entire of itself
every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main
if a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were,
as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were
any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind
and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls
    it tolls for thee. *

  • ^^ it would be really nice if you guys could bring copies of those verses to copy into the book when (if?) you see it this week..

  • Hi Kattt,
I'm a friend of Eilidhs and I'd like to put something in the book... Are you still going to be around somewhere tomorrow lunchtime?
    Cheers

  • Hello JCob - The current plan is to leave the book in Cavendish Cycles on Friday so that people can access it until it needs to be posted.
    136 New Cavendish Street.

  • That's where I shall be going tomorrow afternoon.

  • missed rolla. you out wests tonight?

  • Cool, cheers provenrad. I'll get there tomorrow

  • Remember me when I am gone away,
    Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
    Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

One of the greatest poems of all time. I love Christina Rossetti.
