here's an idea - can some people think about the bad vibes they're continuing on and on and on in some threads?
if shit flies - any chance people can stop stoking the embers of discontent by effectively bumping stuff that should be long buried? If you drag your own shit back up to the surface that's your look out - but you're being lame if you keep harping on about stuff that isn't even directly affecting you.
some established pointers as to when the general mood is kicking in that you should stop the slanging on-thread:
1) big daddy wayne starts posting pictures of chimps doing funny things, i.e. being cowboys, playing the piano, directing films etc.
2) greasy slag starts posting pictures of chocolate bars
3) everyone starts telling you to let it lie in tags, i.e. 'oh please stop it' and 'everyone shut up'
4) the thread gets inundated with pictures, videos etc, all of which, mysteriously, are trying to return to the original point of the thread and/or are very jolly (see points 1 & 2)
at this point maybe think about pming or visitor-messaging the person you got massive beef with to talk about resolving it (and no, this doesn't mean "plaguing them with personalised abuse"). you could even post "pm'd, I'm not talking about his in front of everyone any more" if you want to save your face..?
There's been occasions when I haven't been the mellowist or least-opinionated of posters in my time but I've tried to change that in the last few months. Believe it or not I see hundreds of dumb comments a week - usually not about bikes - that I'd like to respond to but in the end I don't engage cos it would make vibes worse. I can sense hundreds of people do the same, if not far more so. But there's a few people wading into arguments - either clumsily or maliciously, I genuinely can't tell any more - and making them continue for weeks. For goodness sake try and think about the wisdom of your perpetuating of something.
yeah some people will know a contemporary example of what I'm talking about. I'm posting this to try to avoid continuing that one even further, but there's been beef flying on a number of different threads recently that has lasted weeks because people are dredging stuff back up again!!!
cue comedy chimps, chocolate bars and tags telling me to shut up.
