  • I'm not saying that you should compare films and their source material in a "which is better" way, or that a film should be "true" to the details of its source to any particular degree (for example, Apocalypse Now is supposedly based on Heart of Darkness. Both are good, and the film is no worse for changing everything except the concept behind the book).

    However, you can see why it pisses people off when the film is of much lower quality than the source. Who are you attracting then..? People that know the original will be disappointed - you've attracted them under false pretences. People that don't know the original won't care either way, so why not change the title and the names of the characters, if you're changing all the stuff that's actually important? The only effect that basing your half-arsed film on something good has is to make bad reviews more likely, by disappointing critics. Everybody loses.
