yeah it's basically just a way of film companies securing an audience - if they don't honour that with a decent film then it's a shame for the original fans. But comics are comics and films are films.. I imagine a true geek wouldn't go and see the film version of something like Watchmen as they know the art lies in the novel, going to see it is just curiosity that's probably going to be disappointed.
I don't see much difference between films based on graphic novels / comics and the thousands of films over the years based on novels. The great films of novels are few and far between and the original books are usually the better experience. Two different pleasures really.

I'm not saying that you should compare films and their source material in a "which is better" way, or that a film should be "true" to the details of its source to any particular degree (for example, Apocalypse Now is supposedly based on Heart of Darkness. Both are good, and the film is no worse for changing everything except the concept behind the book).
However, you can see why it pisses people off when the film is of much lower quality than the source. Who are you attracting then..? People that know the original will be disappointed - you've attracted them under false pretences. People that don't know the original won't care either way, so why not change the title and the names of the characters, if you're changing all the stuff that's actually important? The only effect that basing your half-arsed film on something good has is to make bad reviews more likely, by disappointing critics. Everybody loses.

I hate pedals that don't have an Allen key hole in the back, so you have to go out and spend a tenner on a pedal spanner that in all probability you will never use again. IT'S THE 21ST CENTURY, YOU FUCKING RETARDS!!

Allen keys for pedals are shit. Pedal spanners offer far more leverage and are less likely to round leaving your pedal stuck in crank.
If the cost of a tenner gives you this much stress, why didn't you just borrow someone's pedal spanner?

Good things to do with a horse.
RecipesPicula ad Caval
This traditional Italian recipe will serve 6
21/4 pounds ground horse meat
1 Tbsp. olive oil
2-1/2 ounces ground cured lard (or pancetta)
2 onions, minced
1 glass dry white wine (though some Italian chefs prefer broth)
6 ripe tomatoes, blanched, peeled, seeded, chopped, and drained
2 bell peppers, ribbed and seeded, then diced
2 Tbsp. minced fresh herbs (basil, sage, and rosemary in proportions to taste)
1 clove garlic, minced
salt and freshly ground pepper
Heat the oil, lard, and onion in a skillet. Sauté until the onion has become golden but don’t let it get really brown. Add the horse meat and brown it, stirring frequently. When it has browned, sprinkle in the glass of wine and reduce the heat to a bare simmer. Cover it, and let it cook for at least an hour. Mix in the chopped tomatoes and diced peppers, and continue cooking for another half hour. Ten minutes before removing the dish from the stove, sprinkle the minced herbs over everything. Serve it hot with salt and pepper to taste.

With Hippy on this one.
A 15mm combination wrench does your pedals at one end and your tracknuts at the other - one of the lightest and most useful tools in the kit! -

Some people's attitudes...
Agreed, that stinks.
Think before you type.

1) I've not yet seen an Allen key pedal which won't also succumb to a pedal spanner, so the rounding isn't the end of the world*
2) It wasn't the "tenner" part, it was the "going out" part - it was dark and raining and I just wanted to put my new pedals on, OK?
*Yep, aware that this undermines my entire argument, no need to point it out.

Would it be simpler if I just rephrased?
"I hate not having a pedal spanner, though I now do".

Ha!

Just think twice before dissing pedal spanners...
-
• #1094
Technically I was dissing the pedals, not the spanners, but yeah, lesson learned. I'll stop digging now.

My cyclus chainwhip
hashad just the right amount of chain on it to smash my thumb knuckle to bits when it slips off the sprocket. Genius design.
Yeah that did concern me when I read totalfilm and they said that he basically washed his hands of it, you never though eh, I live in hope.
I really liked Ironman actually, it was quite cheesy and heavily glossed up for hollywood, but I think Ironman2 sounds like it should be wayyy better. Sadly due to the need to retain commercial appeal, the films are never ever as good as the comics :(. After reading loads on the new wolverine film though, this looks like it could be absolutely amazing.
