Just had a chat on the phone with the guy who stole my Lemond Fillmore on Saturday.
Saw it down on Brick Lane on Sunday - got the police out when I saw it chained to railings, and cos I couldn't prove ownership they couldn't do shit.
And then saw it on Gumtree today but the guy had sold it on last night.
It's a proper joke how easy it is for thieves to pass bikes on.
And they don't even need to be able to spell.
(http://www.gumtree.com/london/17/34507517.html)I didn't tell him that the bike was mine, just asked if it was still for sale. When he told me it wasn't, he was asking me what kind of bike's I liked, frame colours, handlebars, that kind of shit. Offering to get them to order. Was proper disgusting.
If anyone has bought the bike (you paid £150 I think), think how noble you'd be if you took a leaf out of George's book...
Swear I saw this bike a couple of hours ago locked up outside Sainsburys in New Cross. If I see it again I'll leave a note on it or something

You been down brick lane recently? It's a proper pikey mob of the fuckers selling bikes down there - slashes down their faces and shit. Was pretty intimidating with them peering down the alley at us as we chatted with the po po.
And it was a chunky lock - would've taken ages to saw through.Did go back to a mate's to get another lock, but by the time we'd come back, it had gone.
Sorethroat - did you notice if there was a bit of brown masking tape wrapped round the right handlebar? I'd torn the bar tape when I stacked the other week and hadn't got round to redoing it yet. I'm guessing that whoever got it last night probably wouldn't have fixed it yet.

Guys, who wants their own back on a serious bike thief?? I think we all do.
I urge you then to do a google search on this mobile number 07599365284 if you then click (search again and include ommitted results) you will see he has sold every type of bike, 50 in total in the last 2 months, different sizes, different styles, different name on every advert. A bit of a co-incidence maybe? well I checked to see if he had a shop, as soon as he answsered the phone and couldnt tell me what his name was suggested he couldnt! and the fact he couldnt spell his name, or half of the brands of bikes he is selling, also a bike shop with 50 bikes and 50 different staff names sounds a touch odd.
What do you guys reckon? unfortunately he keeps hanging up on me so I have now left him 27 messages and will continue to call many times every day. I have written to gumtree to report it and would ask if anyone else on the forum wants to call him to question why he has so many bikes and names it will mean he spends more time fielding queries than he does stealing your bikes!
I am almost certain he stole a lemond filmore from a forum member here (sorry for your loss, a lovely bike, I hope you get it back or better luck next time)

well if u wanted to get even your just messed up by phoning him incessantly. He might not be able to spell properly but he'll be sharp enough to know that means it's time to change his number perhaps stay low for a while.

Hi Dylan - Im hoping he didnt use an internet cafe for each posting and police can track him....sorry if I did blow it, dont worry I have detailled all his common spelling errors and when he pops up again I will get his new number and track him down.
Dont worry I will get some of these guys, Im a bit new to this but after having my bike stolen I have to balance the karma

Appreciate the sentiment Person, but I’m not too proud to admit that they’d have royally kicked my arse.
If you want to cut off fingers though just head down Brick Lane on a Sunday. There’s plenty of candidates there. ;o)It’s off the peg and a really nice ride, so reckon there must be a fair few about.
Since the blue bar tape and tyres was me though I guess the chances are that if you see them on a grey framed Fillmore, then it’s probably mine.
There’s a phone number and code stencilled on the top tube of the frame. Ring that and quote the code and they’ll tell you if it’s stolen or not (and yeh, I know that should’ve worked with the police. But there was no fucking answer on Sunday. I’m waiting to hear about compensation from the datatag people).I’m in Hackney, and not down Peckham/New Cross way much. If you South London heads could keep an eye out it would be real appreciated.

Will do.

Yeh Seeds - the first time I saw it was when it was being sold - propped up on the curb - down in Brick Lane. Think I must've done a double-take on it that was a bit too obvious cos by the time I'd ducked down an alley to call the police he'd scarpered.
It was after that that I found it chained to the railings.
And I have kept the frame number, but cos it's tagged with a chip and has a code sprayed on the frame, didn't bother to bring it with me. Thought they'd be enough, but when the police came down, they didn't have a scanner for the chip, and they couldn't get through on the phone number.
So, with those two times, and then this last occasion on Gumtree, it's been three times that I've found it and lost it again since it was stolen.
Which very strangely has made me feel slightly better than just having it nicked the once.
So the rozzers saw in favour of the thief rather than you, the rightful owner? Un fucking believable!
I'd've kicked off big time!

The coppers called their bossand he called his boss; and it was the big boss who said no.
I don't reckon kicking off at the rozzas really gets you anywhere. They're trained to be authoritative arseholes; in my experience, the best plan is to make them think that you respect them and appreciate what they're doing.
Was fucking ridiculous though.
The whole thing has been. It's the absurdity of it all that's made me feel better than just having it gone the once. At least it's a better story now.

Is your number in the private phone number thread in case we do spot it?
(Apols if I have missed your number in a post above)
-
• #41
Yeh, sorry been stupid to not put that out.
I've just added it to the phone number thread. Thanks for the support people - is really appreciated. Do give me a call if you see it.
Like I say, I suspect that there's not too many grey Lemond Fillmores with blue cow horn bars and blue tyres out there (especially ones that are chipped and stencilled).Just to remind you:
Thanks again.

i called the person that i was with when i spoke to the person on a lemond in peckham two days ago but they were not available. i will call them again tomorrow. i will just try to find out if they know if the person bought the cycle recently. i hope this is of some help.
-
• #43
That would be great coppi, if you saw them on Monday they'd have actually bought it that day. And if the person you were with knows anything about the area where that person lives that then that would be even better...

• #44
hello i just spoke to the person that knows the person who was riding the cycle the other day and it turns out they have had their lemond for over a year so its not them. sorry if i got your hopes up, but for every lemond that is seen and excluded you'll be getting closer to yours. just so you know the only question i asked was "how long has he had the lemond?" no other questions were required when he replied "about a year or so".

• #45
Thanks for asking anyway.
Think it's pretty unlikely that it'll turn up now.
Bike thieves, eh? Arseholes. The lot of them. -

If I found my bike at brick lane after being stolen I'd probably play the dum yuppie who likes the look of the bike, ask if I could try it for size and then ride like I stole it from a thief.
my god timmyfatlips, how did you contain yourself?, i would definitely have either nailed the c**t there and then when i saw him selling my bike or waited until whoever came back to unlock it. or hacksawed it off myself. bad luck though mate.
