  • Hello - has anyone on here ridden the Outer Circle during these apparently traffic-free hours?

Am I right in thinking I'd not be expected to stop at any of the red lights by any kind of authority, and unlikely to suddenly come face to face with any cars pulling out of junctions?

A midnight to 1am slot might be my only workable option for safe, fast, non-stop training on tribars during the week. I'll be lit up, but the brake levers will be that bit further away, I won't be skidding a 93" gear, and I'll be spending a fair amount of time between 25 and 30mph.

    Nervous, but hopeful.

  • This is London my friend. You can never expect anywhere to be traffic free. Nor can you expect a total lack of authority figures. But your chances are down of being stopped.

How does the inner circle compare with the outer circle?

  • what are you, some kind of goddamn weirdo?

  • I ride through there often enough on my way home between those hours, sometimes get a lap in too.

Only thing I recall seeing in the not too distant past was a delivery moped, although it is also worth baring in mind there are people who live on the outer circle who may come through parts of it with their cars for access.

Generally it's ok as long as you're lit up and your ears are open.

  • Thanks for the info, cake.

hippy - the inner circle is 1km, and starts to feel like a velodrome, even if you're doing stop-starty interval stuff. Gets a bit busy at times near the college/cafe bit.

nimh - I ride a bicycle, ergo I am weird.

  • Just wait man.. one day we'll be normal and those "drivers" will be the freaks..

  • BMMF, I'd ask Camden Cyclists--they'd know. They have a mailing list.

Personally, I'd be worried about personal safety at this time of night, although that may be more of a concern in the summer.

I don't live there, so I'm only speculating, but generally parks are to be enjoyed with caution at night.

    Clapham Common especially.

  • @ Oliver - it's the Outer Circle, not in the park per se, and I won't be dawdling. I know that TriLondon people ride there between 4am and 7.30am, but getting up early isn't going to work for me. But best not get complacent of course.

  • You should be ok though it is nt particularly well lit, but saying that you should see the headlights if its the middle of the night unless they are nutter with inbuilt night vision!

  • There are police who patrol outside the US Ambassador's residence. There may be escaped animals from the Zoo as well. Not all of them will be vegan. Some of the gates are locked at night aren't they?

  • you'll get nicked old boy unless of course you have planned your escape route

oh and I bought some of that qiunoa

five euros for a bowl of fucking gruel

    your avin a laugh innit?

Yes, as I say I don't have much local knowledge, but it does still feel fairly parky to me. But there may well be good park police, I don't know. I've been along there at night a couple of times on the Midsummer Madness rides, when with dozens of others it's obviously not an issue, but I was wondering how it would feel alone.

  • BMMF will be moving faster than any homeboy, stalker, smack head, copper, drunk yuppie, etc.
He should be ok if he keeps his eyes open.

    ur kukin it rong.

The loneliness factor feels the same for group and solo rides :(

  • Some of the gates are locked at night aren't they?

Same deal as Richmond Park, init? Open to cyclists, peds, rollerbladers, frisky couples, blah...

  • I would post on the Tri London forum to ask what the deal is, but to be honest, I think triathelete's are a bit strange.

No offence, though if I've caused some, that's fine.

  • I would post on the Tri London forum to ask what the deal is.

Fuck them, if you are talking about parks at night try the Bi-London Forum.

  • Biathletes are even less well-rounded.

Agreed, absolutely foul shit, when I first went vegetarian I tried to get into quinoa, but for fuck's sake that shit is degrading.

  • Biathletes are even less well-rounded.

Yeah, but they will 'take you 'round' the park with no questions asked.

  • ^^But it's the food of the gods :p

  • Yeah, but they will 'take you 'round' the park with no questions asked.

Will they be impressed by my 93"?

  • Only if you can get it up
