• As it's Friday I'll also add that those Rapha softshell gloves are fucking shit in the rain and not worth even the £20 I paid. Hytrel waterproof membrane my arse.

  • Thats the spirit........

  • Snowing pretty heavy way the hell out west now.

  • man, i know melbourne has been hot. but forecast for tomorrow 47degree's and mildura (where hippy is from) is 9 days in a row of 40+

Think of the tan I could get... someone build a matter transporter.. bring it!

  • Snowing pretty heavy way the hell out west now.

Well.. I'm over it. Fucking slippery arse roads.

  • I work down the road from where you live i think? perivale not looking good here

  • I'm living in Ealing. I almost fell on my arse a few times this morning.
I'm worried about ice not snow though.

exactly why i didn't ride today, if it does freeze it will be fucked around here
    it hasn't frozen yet though

  • I knew it was gonna be sketchy.. but it's training isn't it?
Work those bike handling skills hippy, work it. ;)
After this morning's ride though I wish I was sitting on the Tube reading a nice book. :S

  • get into it while you can.

  • 46.4 degrees in Melbourne today, with strong winds. It was like standing in a hairdryer.

i'm going to step off the plane in London next week and my heart will stop.

  • my home state is on fire: http://www.theage.com.au/national/death-toll-rises-from-bushfires-20090208-80jv.html

84 dead, 700 homes destroyed, half the state is burning, it's a fucking hellish nightmare. i'm in melbourne, and it's all over the news, but there are no signs that everything is burning just 40 minutes drive north, because the wind is blowing the wrong way. this is the worst fire that melbourne has ever seen, and we're usually used to it. it's fucked.

    i would prefer snow.

  • I just got an email from my Mum. Some relatives are cut off by the fires. No power, water, phones, no nothing. They are ok but cut off. My Aunties house is full of smoke. One relo lost his house and business to the fires.

Worse than Ash Wednesday. Fucked up. What's more fucked up is that my brother is battling floods up north somewhere! Crazy country

    http://thehippy.net/nucleus/index.php?itemid=1257

  • hope your relos are ok, hippy.

for melbourne people who would remember him, former channel 9 newsreader Brian Naylor and his wife died in the fires.

every now and then this country reminds us how fucking brutal it can be. a record drought, then 46 degrees and a strong hot northerly, plus a couple of psychopaths who light fires deliberately = fucking carnage.

  • Yeah, I read that! Brian Naylor and his wife. You don't expect people you know and famous people to be caught up in shit like this.. it's always 'unknowns'.
I hope the cunts lighting fires are killed or caught or better yet, caught then killed slowly.

  • i hope the arsonists are caught then lowered very slowly from a helicopter into the fires they started.

not really, but starting bushfires is a fucking horrendous thing to do. there are suggestions that some of them were CFA officers who wanted to be called out and be heroes. that's fucking twisted.

  • I read this morning that Marysville no longer exists. Not a house or store left. Fuck me thats grim. My Aunt/Uncle/Cousins live in mount dandenong have abandoned their place and are staying with my mum and dad in the city. They just dont want to risk being up there.

  • yeah marysville is apparently gone, and most of kinglake is gone too.

it's weird in melbourne, there are no signs of carnage, apart from the news reports. it's a southerly wind, no smoke in the sky. but everyone knows that shit is fucking bad.

  • My uncles mum (I dont know what that makes her to me) owns one of the 3 houses left standing in Kinglake. Unbelievable.

  • **snow and strong winds tomorrow night.

Bless that veggie curry.. brrrrp! :)

  • Another top winter tip

If you have recently swapped your eggbeater cleats for quattros, to take another bike out for a spin. Swap them back before it starts snowing again. I very nearly got to view the underside of a lorry in motion this morning. Lazy tit that I am.

    Quattro cleats = snow fail!

Right so I did'nt swap my cleats back on Thursday night. I figured I'd do it over the weekend (note lazy tit comment above). Friday evening, on my way home from work, a few meters from home, I had a fall at about 10mph (my top speed on ice/snow). The snow and slush which had collected in the U shaped raised plastic part of the quattro cleat, had frozen solid (it was -6C). My foot only released when the cleat snapped, as my hip hit the ground.

    Lazy tit = snow fail
