• I'm unfortunately ripe for a section 44 so I can't get away with shit. I once got pulled over at the train station and had my car searched on a section 44. When I asked him why me, he said my car was too loud. How the fuck is that related to a section 44!?

I'm taking a guess you're of Asian appearance then?

By rights, that would amount to ethnic profiling, which is still against the law, but we all know that's not likely to stop anything. If your car's too loud, that's not a terrorist offence.

But then we already knew that.

I'd love to recommend that you make a complaint to the IPCC, but I've never seen a case result in significant or tangible changes to policy or procedure. Making a complaint it would appear, is utterly pointless.

But then we already knew that.

The reason why I'm more than likely going to join Liberty (or similar) is because too many of these anti-terror laws are being used to justify actions that have no relevance to terrorism. I've currently got a bee in my bonnet about section 76 of the Counter-Terrorism Act, and that fact it's far too vague - as are loads of other pieces of anti-terror legislation: exclusion zones around the Palace of Westminster, billion pound public liability insurance for protests in Trafalgar Square - and countless others - which arent being used in the spirit of the legislation (in a purely idealistic sense).

The implication is that by running a red light, you're attempting to evade police detection or are aiming to cause mayhem and chaos (and you don't even need to be carrying a weapon to do this...). The law's just being applied randomly as a justification for anything.

But then we already knew that...
