I'm not suggesting people get training. But if you are falling for things like road markings and man holes you're simply a bad cyclist and need to either get training or slow down. I don't cycle slowly, in fact I'm never over taken by anyone, so I'm quicker than most, I very, very rarely stop at red lights, etc.
But I think I know what I'm doing. I have good city cycling craft. I know how to take ownership of the road and where my limitations are. If you are only discovering the fact that these obsticles exist and don't know how to deal with them in a safe, smooth and effective manner, then you need to learn how to. Much of this is learned through expereince but try not to die in the process. The 'fixie' community will only consider you a frikin idiot if they see you riding like that and no one will think you are cool. Well, except for oneself, who is clearly as deluded about how cool they are as they are about how good a rider they are.
