130mm track hubs?

Posted on
  • Hi, im just about to start building up a new bike. But its a road frame with 130mm spaced dropouts. What track hubs are available in 130mm? I can only find 135mm or 120mm. Im looking for a cheapish hub not more than like £80.

    Thanks
    Guy

  • Buy a 120 mm hub and then space out the axle with 10 mm of washers, 5 mm on either side. Most track hubs come with a long enough axle to allow you to do this, i.e. Miche.

  • Yeah i had thought about that as i already have a 120mm wheel, but i would prefer to get a new hub if i can.

  • goldtec

  • Ahh cool, where would be the cheapest place to get them? i found them for £70, is that a good price?

  • who you talking to?

  • Ahh sorry i was talking about the goldtec.

  • to be fare if your frame is old/cheap just cold set your dropouts to 120mm that way if you by a track frame in the future you dont need to fork out on new hubs.

  • By cold set do you mean bolt the wheel on and let it bend in?? or is it more technical?

  • ive just built up a polo bike with 130mm spacing. bought an axle to swap with the 120, but cant figure out how system ex axles are held in (i havent done much hub stuff in the past, but when i have, the axle can be just slid out once the cones are off. anyone know what to do for system ex?). anyway, ive just tightened the (steel) frame down to 120 for now.

  • You can order the surly hubs in any axle length up to 135mm, I got one for my first fixed, 60 quid I think

  • Quick question for y'all.
What's recommended for the 5mm spacers at either side? Anything special or just a stack of washers? Just got me some new hubs which I'm running on a 130mm frame.
