This happened last year and I'm sure someone on the forum has an angle-grinder that they brought round.

Ah yes! Search for "Angle Grinder' proved a good hit. Seems we have 2 or 3 people who I'll PM now...
-
• #12
i'll be coming past old street mid morning if you still need a grinder. i've pm'd you my mobile number give me a call if you still need help. will need power supply but have extension lead.
-
• #13
Small brown bike (open toolbox) has my angle grinder in Shacklewell. You'll need to ask for electricity and bring an extension lead to wherever you left the bike.
-
• #14
I also have a grinder and would be happy to nip your chain. It would have to be this evening around 5-6.
I have a 30 meter lead, you just have to convince someone to lend you some electricity.
PM me if you want.

This happened to me a few years back - again, my lock was no Abus.
When I went to a locksmith he recommended I work on it with a claw hammer (sledgehammer if I could get one).
About 20 well-placed hits with a big claw hammer smashed the lock open, I imagine if I'd got a sledgehammer it would have been even fewer.
Also a nice advert for not buying anything less than the best lock you can afford as I never thought it would be that easy...

in the mean time might be worth removing all the easily accessible bits so you don't come back to just a frame !!

Hey Rob, you managed to bust your bike out yet?
Had a similar situation before christmas. Locked my bike up outside The Eagle in front of the police station there. Came out of the pub and some silly twat had locked their shitty mountain bike to the same post as me but looped there lock through my frame as well! The pub was packed so it was a hopeless task asking in there plus I was worried it was a scam to to try and steal my bike.
Police were fucking useless although a couple of hoodies in the waiting room there overheard me and offered to free it for £50.. yeah right! I even went to Old St fire station to see if I could borrow some bolt croppers but they were all out on a call. So I ended up going back to the pub and having a few more beers by which time it had emptied out a bit so i went round asking everyone if they had a bike locked up outside... nearly got in a fight with a bloke in a reindeer costume but I finally found the dozy cow who's bike it was. Gave her an earful and said I was about to have her bike cut into pieces... she was very apologetic though.

Angle grinder... Ken High Street
Finally got round to registering... but sadly my first post is to ask for aid. Yesterday evening my key broke off IN the Abus D lock (admittedly I had been using the key for unconventional purposes last week and partly split it). Now my lovely fixie is marooned against a lamppost outside the Builders Arms just behind Ken High Street.
It might be suspicious that my firt post is to break open a lock... but it's genuinely mine. It's a lovely (to my mind, anyway) rebuild by Odge Wong over at London Fixed Gear just off brick lane. I'd have put up a pic to prove it but I've had to come into work (in Ken High St) and don't have pics on this mac. I do also of course possess hald the abus key which fits neatly (schazaam!-like) to the half hleft in the lock.
Anyone in the vicinity (today Saturday) to help release my bike?
As I said, it's park right outside the Builders so I can rush you a drink!

I don;t have an angle-grinder to lend but, a couple of years ago someone tried to nick my bike, but they failed. When I got back to it my key wouldn't fit, there was no way to unlock my bike, I needed help. I tried the police, they basically said "waste of our time", tried the fire brigade, they said "We're not allowed to that any more", tried a hardware store, they lent me a petrol powered angle-grinder. It took about 30 seconds to cut through the d-lock, loads of sparks, girls running past screeching, no one accused me of thievery though.
Anyway, if no one replies, try and borrow a petrol powered angle-grinder from a hardware shop.

cheers blackbeard
proving quite tough this... even if i find an angle grinder the manager at the pub (just five feet away) has said he won't let me run a power cable as he doesn't want to get involved... understandable as he has no reason to believe it's my bike. which is good in a way as I'd be a bit fucked off if he helped the first person who came along and claimed it was his bike.
aaaagggghh

thanks Fred - you may well be my saviour... even though you're in Bethnal Green (I guess?). And more than happy to dispense ale to ya.
I went down to the cop shop nearby and they did warn me that I could still be nicked for springing my own bike...oh well, c'est la vie. will a rechargeable AG get through an abus lock? -

Hi Fred,
being a newbie I can't send private messages... but you can email me on
Hi guys,
Title says all, I've gone and locked my bike up and lost my key. Stupid bastard.
Can anyone help me get this bugger off. Its a 'Squirell' lock? One of those that is steal cable (I presume) surrounded by plastic. Fairly heavy duty, but no Abus.
Its currently locked up in some back lane near Old St (Clerkenwell side).
I'll be suprised if its not smashed up by the morning. Cry.
I've double locked it with a decent Abus for now, so nothing (apart from seat etc - if its still there in the morning I'll grab it - didn't have any tools with me) should go missing.
I've tried a hacksaw on it, and only got about 5% away through the steal and the saw was blunt.
So yeah. Would really appreciate some advice "go to lock smith?" or "I have a fireman size super cutter" or... "drill the lock" etc...
If anyone can help / do / sort me out I'll happily give 50 nuggets.
This be it, clean, and in summer... And not locked up!
A few people on here can vouch that this is my bike, and I'm not trying to steal someone elses!
Give me a ring on 07886831021 if you can help.
Thanks,
Rob.
