I sort of know what you mean. He's a strange bloke, and the chapters about America near the end are fucking terrible.
But I didn't mind the Alpine/Pyrenean/Kentish bits - I always like getting inside others people's heads on climbs.
And his upbringing wasn't entirely dissimilar to mine, so I got something from the early chapters.
